can anyone recommend some silent case fans? i currently have arctic f12 and f8 in my computer atm and they arent exactly quiet like they are supposed to be thanks

In terms of silence, you can't really beat the Noctua NF-F12 (120mm) or NF-F14 (140mm)
although they don't come cheap they will last and at low-med speeds practically silent.

Keep in mind the noise at higher pitch noise at higher voltage/rpm is mainly caused by the vibrations on the table.

Using the included rubber mounts and that will be greatly reduced.

AF 120 Quiet ed, :p
Noiseblocker NB-eLoop B12-2
Both very good
For me Akasa Piranha is amazing but based on personal preferences didn't see any reviews

I'm a big fan (geddit?) of Noctua's products - Even better now that they come in black.
But just about every fan I've tried starts to make noticable noise over 1,000rpm.
This is further compounded by things like vibration and, more often, just the sound of air being pushed through radiators, intake/exhaust meshes, etc.

Corsair SP 120 quiet edition?

What RPM are you expecting to run them at to qualify as "silent"?

medium setting more than likely, depending when they start getting noisy lol ! wanting one that has quite high cfm too forgot to add that

i like the look of the akasa Piranha and from the spec looks like it pushes some good air flow :) think i might go for the piranha

still havent decided on any fans, are they all noisy on high rpm?

Bear in mind that your existing Arctic F12 fan is only rated at 1350rpm or so and you consider that noisy you'll certainly find that the Viper, which has a higher top speed, will be very loud. Don't listen to the marketing rubbish. Every fan makes a noise if you power it up.

Keep your fans below 1000rpm, preferably lower and you will reduce the noise.

80mm fans are typically noisier than their 120mm counterparts and push less air for the amount of noise they produce. Can you replace the 80mm with a 120mm or do without the 80mm. The F8 runs at 2000rpm, which would be pretty noisy I'd imagine.

I would recommend the Noctua though. Of all the dozens of fans I've used and tested in my computer and on the bench I have to say the Noctua fans I have are rather good. I certainly would not recommend the Apache Viper, unless you choose to run it at lowest rpm.

It's funny how Noctua really haven't been budged off their 'most silent fan' throne after.. what, over a decade. So bloomin' expensive unfortunately and I can never justify spending it.

I thought that... but having caved in and bought a load of Noctuas, my other ones (including the Corsair SPs) just got ripped out and chucked away!!
The newer ones aren't that pricey, though...

Good choice! The Noctua's are definitely worth every penny, just ignore the colour scheme for great functionality. I replaced the Corsair fans on my H100i Radiator, their so silent and pull air through really well.

I have 2x120mm Alpenfohn Wingboost 2 PWM fans which I run on max RPM (1500) when gaming and I cannot hear them!

You must have hearing problems or something. :p I must have really sensitive ears since most fans are considered quiet until they hit around 600-700rpm.

Because they are really good. Even at high speeds, it's all air noise. It's those fluid bearings and tricky fan blades - they really do work as they claim to.

what low rpm fans is there that i can run off molex with reasonable cfm? i would be happy with low rpm through molex and sacrifice cfm as i will just get 2 for pushing air into case if they are silent and low rpm
