Silent HDD?

Hello :)

I have started to become irritated by the noise coming from my HDD from time to time, and I am looking to replace it. I require at least 1TB of storage, and I certainly do not have the money to invest in a 1TB SSD which I know would be perfect in terms of noise levels.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a pretty silent HDD?

Have a look at the hard drive bungee mod stick in this forum, makes my 1TB drive silent.

The Samsung 2TB drives in my HTPC I can only hear while they spin up, once spinning they are silent, my HTPC is very silent anyway.

I think all modern large drives are very quiet now anyway. Might be worth trying a laptop drive for extra silence though.

Ditto on above check the bungee mod here:

Cheap and quick fix

You can if it does not work invest in hard drive silent enclosures, but be aware the temps go up so good cooling is still required.

Any Green hdd would run much cooler and silent then a noisy older hdd, in general most new hdds are silent anyhow. An SSD would be the ultimate as you said in no noise and performance, it really is a must now a day's the difference is night and day compared to a mechanical hdd, some get a 128 or 256gig ssd for windows and another for storage or external hdd.... but its up to you.
