Ok i've just tried to install windows on a 160gb maxtor sata drive, with the old Si3112r driver onto a Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe.

Now as soon as it says *Setup is loading Windows* it freezes for about 15 seconds then gives me a blue screen. It says all the usual jargon about, please check if you have installed any new hardware correctly..blah blah blah...but at the bottom of the error it does mention the Si3112r driver. Could this just be a bad copy of the driver to the floppy causing the problem???

Thanx for any help in advance.

I can’t post an image of the blue screen at the moment (no camera) but I have been browsing for similar problems and I am sure this is what it says.

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

As i thought bad copy of the silicon image driver on the floppy, it was missing 1 file.

Why is it on the Asus A78XNE-Delux motherboard you can't install just one SATA drive alone, (it won't let you set a single drive in the array setup) You have to use 2 drives before you create a RADI and install windows. Am i missing something here in the BIOS so you can just use 1 drive or do you need 2 drives of Equal size??

To set up a RAID you need 2 drives the same size.

Yeah i know you need 2 drives to set up an array, i don't want to set up an array. All i want to do is install windows on 1 SATA drive. Is this possible or do i have to use 2 SATA drive's??

Sorry about that m8 it was a bit confusing, Though i did say here

Then i did say this at the end

I am having problems installing windows on 1 SATA drive. I have installed the right silicon driver onto a floppy. I am doing all the right things on installation of the driver itself. Pressing f6 when windows setup ask if you want to use a Raid or Scsi driver. Windows actually reads the driver. I press f8 to agree the terms then as soon as windows tries to search for the device (hard drive) to install it on, it doesn't find it?

Now my theory is because i am only using 1 drive i can't set an array of any kind so that means i can't even add the drive in the array at all (which i need to do 1st so its recognized, so when i install windows, windows will recognize the drive to install the OS onto) i cant explain myself properly here so i do apologise if you don't know what i am trying to say.

Are you installing from a Windows XP original non SP disc?
Or a Windows XP SP2 slipstream disc? I have had no problems installing this way onto two machines with SATA as boot drives

Google search for "SP2 slipstream XP"

boot drives? yes you are using 2 drives and not one drive. this is what i am asking m8, can i just use 1 SATA drive on this motherboard to install windows to.

Why are you messing around with RAID when you don't have two identical drives and not needing RAID? Just disable RAID in the BIOS, otherwise it'll cause problems. No problems on SIL 3132 SATA and Nforce 4 installing with my SP2 slipstream XP CD-R. No drivers needed at the F6 prompt. oh also no problems with Nforce 430 chipset with SATA boot drive, again F6 during install wasn't needed. You don't need two hard discs (SATA or PATA) to install Windows, it doesn't matter...although I would power off all drives except for the new/blank/hard drive that you can quick format and install Windows on.

My machines have 1 to 3 hard drives, mixture of SATA and PATA, and mixture of SATA and PATA as boot drives (ie 250GB for the HTPC boot, also used 20GB PATA for MCE test install) No problems at all. No probs with single HD (PATA/SATA) XP install...for the multiple HD only boot drive switched on for install, shut down, connect up power cable to other drives, switch on and data drives detected as D: E: etc.

I am not messing about with the array, i didn't even think of disabling the RAID in the BIOS thats if i can on this motherboard.

Though this board is a Nforce2 board m8 and not Nforce4. A7N8X-E Deluxe.

Well there is no option to disable RAID on this motherboard at all. It's the g/fs pc so it looks like she will have to buy another SATA drive or just purchase a ide drive and use that for the OS. At least then she will have the SATA drive for backup.
