Does anybody have any stories about seeing idiot drivers getting their just deserts ??
It just seems that everytime I see a moron, they get away with it scott free and it really winds me up.

Eg.. The other day I was queuing at temporary traffic lights along with the other 30 or so cars and the lights were on red but this fool came flying down the wrong side of the road well over the speed limit and straight through the lights. Obviously the light at the other end was on green and it was probably pure luck that there were no other cars starting to come the other way.
Another example...queuing at a 3 lane junction to a roundabout and some dude in the leftmost lane wanted to be in the right lane, so the instant the lights changed he accellerated across the other 2 lanes to get where he wanted to be.

Just once I want to see one of these (insert sweary) end up on fire wrapped round a lamp post, because in my opinion, its only a matter of time before they lead to an innocent's death or serious injury and I for one wouldn't miss them or their antics.

IF and i underline if and highlight it in big green neon letters, IF there were no other cars at the otherside of the road works, then he was well within his rights to go through the red light.

LOL

Does that apply to normal lights as well?

afaik that is wrong..
havent done it myself but if there were roadworks just before a t-junction i wouldnt be going straight through because there were no cars there.

Well whatever the rule is, it was still mental as you couldn't see the other end of the roadworks as they were on a bend !!

I thought I read somewhere that policemen can't "do" you for going through temporary traffic lights on red.

I've had to go through them on a couple of occasions because after waiting 5 or 10 minutes, I came to the conclusion that they were infact broken :)

No it isnt.

Temporary traffic lights are advisory only.

Traffic lights need a council order which makes them legally enforcable, and they also need to be fixed.

Ill admend that, its an offence if there is traffic queing from the other direction.

Is it also an offence to jump out of a queue and do what was probably close to twice the speed limit through some temporary traffic lights on the wrong side of the road during rush hour ? :(

Maybe I should be some kind of undercover traffic cop... I'm ALWAYS seeing stuff like this !!

i'm wondering when the citizen can do arrests and so forth, like have speed camera's or similar, would certainly cut down speeding with around 5+ million people watching :p

hmmm, that remind me of me. **blushes**, a few months ago when i was young and foolish, id just fitted a new exhaust replacing a blocked one, as you can imagine performance was imediatly boosted. showing off my new found power i proceded to over take everything on the bypass at stupid 'iv just passed my test and want an instant ban' kind of speeds. then came the roundabout. way way to fast, rear end slipped left, recovered it for it to then swing all the way round and put me 180 degrees to oncoming traffic. i slid sideways into the kerb and bent the rear wheel under and folded the front wheel in half.
everyone id overtaken drove past lafing at me.
so really i am a moron who did get his just deserts.
still iv leant now. the hard and expensive way. :(
im very very lucky no one else was involved.

Justice of The Peace says:

There is no difference in law between fixed and portable traffic lights.

The law applies unless the defence can show that they are not of an approved type.

The offence is endorseable if committed in a motor vehicle, which includes motorcycles.

The offence is not endorseable if committed when riding a push bike.

Traffic officer says..

With temporary lights, we generally only enforce it if someone passes the actual light. It's still an offence under Section 36 R.T.A. 1988.

Andi says..

I wouldn't recommend it ;)

well my silly story is funny really ,i try and set the scene for all i was travel down the road out of know where 4 boy racers all trying to get passed me i was doing 30 in a 30 mph limit yer i know lol i don’t travel fast now i have a wife 3 kids lol getting old at 37 but well i knew from my visit towards my friends house that there was traffic cops with a speed gun so i presumed the would still be there i only been a my friends house for 45 mins or so
so i stuck to the speed limit didn’t want points on my driving licence so i pulled over to allow the idiots to pass then i played them at there own game as such and started tailgating the last car and sure enough he must have flashed his lights to the car in front and bingo they all took off must have been doing a good 50+mph
and bingo they left my standing then 3/4 mile down the road bingo all of them where pulled over my the police for speeding and i laughed so much i nearly wet my pants lol
so i couldn’t resist giving the drivers a little beep as i went bye
lol

I have seen someone cut someone up on entering a round about, then got T-Boned by a van.

Lol, justice is served :D

A few months ago I was behind a boyracer (Clio RN, 1.2 or 1.4, with lexarse rear lights and big exhaust), I overtook him on a roundabout, then knocked my speed off. About 10 seconds later the Clio goes zooming past me at some speed. I approach the 2nd roundabout and a Volvo traffic Police car is behind me looking to get past.

The Clio was still going quite quickly and he obviously couldn't see the Police car because he was hiding behind me. The guy must have been doing 50 in a 20mph limit and the cop followed him and pulled him over.

Very funny at the time. It all happened because I overtook him a couple of minutes before hand and he wanted to show off to his mates.

I have more hilarious ones.

Car A is going round a roundabout, Car B enters without looking, clipping back-left of Car A.

Car A - Only has a driver no passenger, Ford Mondeo Estate - Explanation, Car B's driver drove into the back of me.

Car B - School mum in a huge BMW X5 with one passenger, - Explanation, I was waiting patiently at the giveway line but Car A suddenly stopped and decided to reverse around the roundabout and drive into me.

Obviously one of them is telling a big pack of lies (Car B) but since Car B had a witness the case is still ongoing and probably will for a while. :(

Hmm, my mistake then.
I've always been led to believe if there is no one on the other side its ok to go through temporary lights.

I had something similar to that, took 2 years to sort out.

Car A is t boned by car B exiting a junction

Car B - he drove into me sideways

Temporary lights carry the same authority as permanent ones AFIAK
