Silly GPU Boost question

So i've not added any extra oc to my 1080ti, but the boost clock is running in the mid 1900s without any urging from me! Is this the normal behaviour for a card supposedly boosting to mid 1650s?

Yes this is normal. The 1080ti can boost to 1987mhz I think. I'll see if I can find a link.

The founders edition can boost to 1898mhz. Your 3rd party one is likely overclocked and so you are seeing mid 1900s.

Put the Power limit to max. There is no way your card can harm is self doing this as the Power delivery on all 1080ti cards can handle it, especially aftermarket cards. Founder edition cards have overkill power delivery as it could easily handle pulling 350watts. This way GPU boost will never throttle or hold back on power limit issues and keep you at max boost. Only temps will affect you. If you manually overclock to say 2Ghz you'll still be fine even 2050 but you may or may not hit voltage limits at that point.

So easiest thing to do is put power limit to max and let GPU boost handle things. Personally id overclock your card to 2Ghz atleast. From what ive seen every card can seem to handle 2Ghz.

its an often misconception that the manufacturers stated boost speed is what you get. When it says you get a boost speed of say 1650mhz you rarely get this as it will often boost beyond that depending on the cooling and PSU you have. They do this because they know they can guarantee you get a minimum of 1650mhz boost speed. Yet if you get say 1950mhz someone else with same card may get 1850mhz everyones experience is different so thats why they accommodate this with the stated boost speed. Bit like when you order fibre and they guarantee a minimum of 40Meg but you actually get 56Meg.

In the latest MSI Afterburner app, you can see the frequency/voltage curve and how you get the result you see with the higher than expected clocks. Very handy when o/c-ing the new Pascal cards with Boost 3.
