Just installed my Silver Arrow cooler this evening. I found it difficult to install, from mounting the backplate, tightening the screws, to mounting the fans. More difficult than the Noctua D14. The instruction manual was like from ikea, I had to figure out what to do by looking at the pictures as the instruction in words was a PITA. I wouldn't buy this cooler again. I would get the Noctua D14, and maybe change the fans with the fans that comes with the Silver Arrow (because I likie PWM). The D14 felt more solid and better built, mounting system is easier, fan mounting is better, but fans are not PWM. The Silver Arrow is bigger and comes with PWM fans.

Any way here are some pics that might help others who are thinking of getting this cooler.

Nice pictures. I'm surprised you had problems installing it because it's the same if not easier than the NH-D14 to install. It takes me less time to take out the Silver Arrow and remount it than it does with the NH-D14.

Anyway, it's kinda pointless moving from one cooler to the other for anyone who's got either because they are both on par with each other. The Silver Arrow is also quieter and cheaper hence all the recommendations.

Thanks. Yes you are right with all you have pointed out.

To me I felt like the SA is bigger when I fitted it and a quick google confirms my observation.

With the D14, I get 2-3 degrees celcius less (IIRC) but with the Silver Arrow, I get a straight 7 degrees less, this is delta temp I'm talking about. Maybe it was just a fitting problem with the D14 when I had it. Forgot to mention I used Arctic Sliver 5 on both and just did the measurements right after the computer's up and running.

Completely off topic, what camera are you using? Those pictures are amazing quality!

Are they handheld with standard room lighting? I am looking at getting a new camera and those shots pique my interest.

Lol I was going to ask the same question :p

This thread is more about nice pretty pictures than silver arrow issue lol :D

OP please let us know what camera it is?

Thanks. I used a Canon EOS 7D with 35mm prime lens and a 430EX II on top of the camera's hotshoe but bounced from the ceiling.

Oh btw, use the bundled Chillfactor III paste. It's much better than AS5.

Oh cr*p ! I should have asked about that but I was in a rush, are you sure? I though AS5 is still one of the best? I've searched the net and always read good things about AS5. I'll use the CFIII next time then.

CF3 is slightly better than CF2 from that chart.

Thanks for the pics K_Poh, this is just what I was looking for, I also have Corsair Low Profile ram and was wondering if the first 140mm fan needed to be raised above it's normal position to accommodate the ram. I was thinking about getting the NH-D14 but I have read this performs slightly better and is quieter.

I wouldn't buy this cooler again. I would get the Noctua D14

i have always found the d-14 the absolute best cooler

maybe it is a fraction of a degree warmer than the SA, but the quality and mounting system is infinitely better

D-14 F_T_W! :D :p :D

I also have pictures of the Noctua D14 here.

If not because of the non PWM fans, I would have kept it.
