SilverStone Raven RV04

A while ago I had a go at designing a case in Sketchup. The front looks pretty similar I think :p

The RV04 looks pretty ugly if you ask me (as well as my case for that matter).

It's like the design department through a sickie and some random person got put in charge.

It's a pity SilverStone have given up on the rotated motherboard design. For a single gpu setup the noise vs performance of the RV02/FT02 can't be beat. Once the fans are hooked up to a controller you can have them barely spinning, or even disable the bottom fans altogether during idle/desktop use. Try that with a standard case and everything will overheat.

ive seen some ppl say they like the look, I cant understand why
I could not imagine it any more ugly
even aerocool are putting out better looking cases(I like the one with the blue insides) :)

I not seen much on the ft03's hope they are better^^
ft03 with a window, some sound proofing, they would sell great

Just got an rv03 for a build today...have an ft02 myself...I can't understand why they didn't take the rv03 interior and the ft02 styling....I can't imagine the ft02 was a bad seller...surely that should tell them something!

Hi guys, I like to join in on the conversations here as it looks like there are a few misconceptions:

The FT04 isn't much better either, same case bar aesthetics/materials I think. Wish they'd come up with a real successor to the FT02...

I think our model number schemes may have been misunderstood. The FT04 was never meant to be a successor to FT02, just like FT02 was not meant to succeed FT01. They are all different cases made for different purpose/tastes. We are still producing all these cases to be sold at the same time!

We never gave up on the rotated motherboard design because we are not phasing out any of the case model that has it. In fact, we have several design in development right now with rotated motherboard layout. As to noise vs. performance of RV02/FT02, you are right that they can't be beat after we updated them with AP181 fans in 2010, but that is until RV04/FT04 came along. :D

We contemplated making a FT version of RV03, but the two protruding vents on the side panels would have looked out of place on a very clean design and they had to be there for functional purposes. A major selling point for those buying a FT was aesthetics, so we couldn't make that sacrifice. It was a tough decision! FT02 was a reasonably good seller for its price, but sales of "gaming" cases with plastic exterior such as HAF cases from Cooler Master or Phantom from NZXT were easily more than ten times better.

Lastly I hope you guys read the entire article linked by the OP instead of forming quick opinions based on a few photographs. The engineering that we put into the RV04 aren't easily seen but are nevertheless quite tremendous and this shows in RV04's staggering cooling efficiency. With only two fans, the RV04 managed to beat the previous best case on Anandtech, the Rosewill Blackhaw Ultra, for cooling performance, which had eight fans installed and had beaten plenty of other high performance cases before it!

I've always loved the raven cases, for me, I have this order of preference:

RV01 (all time favourite case) - RV02 (second favourite case of all time) - RV04 (I think I'm gonna be alone here) - RV03 (I've never liked this one for some reason, it just doesn't sit well with me)

Damnit, why did this thread have to cause me to drool over the rv01 again?!?! :( :p

I have to ask the open question to the Silverstone rep.

What the hell is going on with your design department? You release a case that's covered in ridges and ugly plastic bits or daft front faces, then rapidly release a revision into a more subtle, simple and elegant style.

SG07 > SG08
TJ09 > TJ10
RV04 > FT04

The TJ11 was over the top and now the Mini ITX Raven has the ugly ridges on it too.

Your cases are stunning, but please rethink your design aesthetic because surely you're just wasting money by revising these appalling designs so quickly!

Actually most of these cases were planned from the very beginning to have two versions (or more) to suit different end-user preferences. This is most apparent in our Sugo series cases as each chassis layout has two versions:

SG01 / SG02
SG03 / SG04
SG05 / SG06
SG07 / SG08
SG09 / SG10

We've been doing this since 2005!

Then the world is going potty! 'Gaming case' styles are a real put off. But then I'm not 15 years old I suppose. And isn't it also down to the price anyway. A £200+ case will be a hard seller, whatever the looks, especially with something a little bit alien like the FT02, and limited watercooling compared to the competition.

Really like the internal FT02 design, and the Ravens. Shame the plastic exterior didn't match the engineering imo. I much prefer the functional stuff you guys do, like the Temjin and the FT02, and I believe I'm not alone.
