Like I said, all distributed computing applications dislike the old Via CPUs with a passion. Even Celerons are better, and that's saying a lot. I'm not familiar with the latest ones, so don't know. I do know that Yonah/Conroe/Merom all do well at things like Folding.
Of course, as a linux fileserver box, pretty much anything will do, right back to a 100MHz Pentium if you're so inclined.
