Ok so I am a complete petrolhead, and will be jumping about like a loon once the racing gets underway, but can those of you have been to Silverstone before tell me what I should try and see/do, what things I need to take with me, and what sort of stands, other things there are to see before the main event gets underway.

I am going Saturday and Sunday, will be there late morning on Saturday, and then very early on the Sunday.

Gimme some hints/tips/useful info please!!!
Fanks!

You need to be there VERY early to get any sort of good seating.

If you just have the roam around tickets where you can sit anywhere, go to the Luffield Corner area where you can see the track curving, you see lots more when the cars and slowing for the corners (50mph ish) and then get to see/hear them go up towards the pit straigh, awesome sound when you hear the TC fighting the cars.

As for time, if you want a proper space to sit (take chairs too) then i'd be wanting to get there at 5.30am-6am latest, its a bit of a wait but well worth it if you want a good view.

As for stands etc, you will see lots of merchandise stores, few fun fair bits and bobs, burger vans, coffee stands, simulators and the all important Fosters bar.

If you have a camera try not to take a digital one that takes a second or so to actually get the shot, you will miss the good pictures. Digital SLR cameras would be great at this type of event.

Our list in 2005 to take was...

- Chairs
- Jumpers (for morning before sun comes out.. if it does)
- Camera
- Snacks
- BEER
- Money

There *should* be a few freebies given out at the manufacturers stalls in way of posters, cleaning stuff etc so keep your eye out and snap it up.

Enjoy yourself :)

Thanks Phil thats brilliant, will I have to take lots of cash, or do places take cards?

Probably but take cash would be my advice. Don't put money/phones/keys in your back pockets, keep them as safe as possible.

When your driving in tune into Silverstone radio, last year i did a competition and nobody bothered to ring in apart from me, i got through the first round and could have claimed 2 vip tickets to another event but i carried on to the next round and lost :( Anyway, its a bit of a laugh on your way in and you have a chance to win some great stuff :) I think they radio station is on from 6am and Silverstone TV from 7am.

I went last year with my dad. We don't live too far from the track and got there about 7am. We hadn't paid for a seat so we decided that I would leg it all the way from the carpark to copse corner (the first corner) with the 2 folded chairs to get a place while dad walked with the cool box and cameras. Managed to get a pretty good view. We were right at the back so could see over the wire fencing. If you do get a space there, don't leave a space in front of you. Throughout the entire race people were walking back and forth to the food/drinks vans. (why people pay £100 to queue for food is beyond me). Leave a walkway behind you.

Also, earplugs are a must!

I take it this is all just for the Sunday, whats the parking like on the Saturday? We have a park and ride pass for the Sunday.
Thanks you lot this is all really helpful! :)
Are earplugs really necessary, I thought that was all part of the fun?

Get there very early, stake your patch and don't move for anyone

personally I would go down at vale, club or stow, along the bottom straight, that way you can see half the circuit, try to get opposite the big screens.

If you go to luffield you only see a small part of the race.

Oh yeah food hat water etc

Grandstand seats for the win :)
Role up at 9am, walk through all of the crowds to find my reserved seat, at the front :)
