Silvia PS13

I've only driven a UK 200SX S13, and an S14a but the same should appy.

Feels a bit more of a grand tourer. It will feel a little bit "tall" and less responsive than the Integra, and NOTHING like the AE86. Chalk and cheese! Far more insulated. Turn in is still pretty good but they can wash out a bit mid corner, sometimes don't feel totally planted, similar to driving on wet grass or ice only far less pronounced of course. I'm told coilovers or very good suspension kit normally sorts this out.

Engine is a little bit flat as standard but responds really well to breathing mods and tuning in general. Talking about the SR20 here not that nasty thing that belongs in a chainsaw (CA18DET)

Easy peasy to get them sliding, especially with an LSD.

Pretty robust motors even when tuned but not unburstable, look out for turbo gaskets going (not expensive just a long job to do), bottom end rattle is definitely a weak spot, seen a few head gaskets go too but if anything it'll be those big ends.

Capable of stupendous rot - sills, panels, wings, front panel, inner sills etc.

I really do like the S13 Silvia shape (both the nose and that funky notchback) though I do prefer the Sileighty just a little bit.

Just as overpriced as the AE86 IMO, remember what you are buying is essentially a 200SX with fixed headlamps and a 2.0 engine. S14 and 14a represent much MUCH better value for money but like you theres something about the look of the S13 that I just think is "right"

kinda sums up the handling of my mates old s13, used to scare the crap out of me going fast, never felt safe, and that was on lowering springs/shocks, not sure the type, diff slapped like hell as it was worn out, But omg the power, his was a ca18det with forged internals and a t3 turbo, loads of fun :D quite laggy but just felt awsome coming onto the power.

i remember he had a problem with the rear subframe bushes wearing out and the subframe wore a hole in the car body, this plus rust eventually led to its demise :(

Thanks for another consise, informative and helpfull post Lopez, again that sounds exactly like my perception of them. The one in my OP has coilovers (I think) and a decent steering wheel so it should go some way to improving that inate 'softness'.

I agree that they are another car that are overpriced for what they are, but again I'd be happy to pay that for a good one, they just 'do it' for me.

do it :D or get a onevia  though harder to find.

get some front and rear strut barcing to sort out the sloppy handling along with some decent coil over's and bush's and probably some adjustable arms for alignment.

Really great cars - something that you don't see much of around. Very capable, certainly you ahve the arse end hanging out as much as you want. As has been said, dead easy to modify and to increase the power, much easier than messing about with the 'teg. I was fairly sure they are all LSD's, might be wrong though.

Cetainly a better place to 'be' compared to the AE86, more modern, better interior. Those wheels are a good effort on there as well.

I would echo the calls that the S14a is better VFM but I also respect that you like the PS13 and that it is a great car. If you're prepared to pay the scene tax, you should get a good 'un, unmolested as possible.

Good luck either way!

Depends on budget, I keep being told by an australian import company that prices in Japan are dropping through the floor for a lot of cars now, especially V35 skylines.....

get on over to sxoc for more info, S15's are dropping to silly money now, theres one on SXOC for around high 8's at the moment.

Best of luck :)

you want one of these
