sim problems with sim free phone

right guys need help.

just bought a sim free xperia s. i don't have a micro sim, so i cut up my orange sim but it wont recognize it. i tried again with a Tesco mobile sim card, cut it up again and tried, still wont recognize it.

is there something else i have to do in the phone?

under "mobile network settings" i found the list of networks to choose but each time it returns with no sim card.

is it because im chopping up the card?

Are you cutting up the card correctly?

right down to the millimeter from guides on the net

Get a 'proper' micro SIM and see if that helps. If not, it's probably faulty.

Exactly how are you cutting it up?

It might've been better to pop down to a phone shop and let them do it, it was free when my friend did it.

I tried this with my phone, coincidentally also an xperia S, it didnt work either

sorted, didn't cut enough into one side,

you have to be near enough into the chip.

I've got an Xperia S too and there was a very small dint in the sim card, worked fine in other phones but not in the Xperia S.. Had to get a new SIM card and then it worked.

when i cut the card down further i still hade to slide the card further to the left in order to meet the contacts.
