Simple, audio recording app

I've just bought a mic and I want to record a few things, any recommendations for a simple recording app?

I just got hold of Audacity and when I press the record button I receive the following error: "Error while opening sound device. Please check the input device settings and the project sample rate."

I've set my preferences and I still receive the same error

Download the ASIO4ALL driver so that you don't get as much latency, and then select that as the audio driver in Audacity.

Failing that, Cubase is much better but no demo and costs quite a bit.

REAPER is an excellent piece of software. Thumbs up, +1 and all that shenanigans to ASIO4All - most handy.

How do I record using that? I selected a new master track and various other options and I can't seem to record! It has also fubarred my sound, its now all distorted and slow mo.

Time to reboot :\
