simple question about floppy drives

Ok this is really simple but I have forgotten which way round the cable goes i.e does the twisted side go into the drive or the motherboard or does it matter/depend on the motherboard.

hmmm thats what i thought but mine doesn't seem to work and I have tried it every which way.

I even took one out a different computer and tried that in mine with the cable that wokred in the other. the connector must be broken on the motherboard then.

Red line to pin 1. this can be left or right depending on manufacturer.

damn i havnt had a floppy in my computer for over 3 years. i still cant believe they havnt been totaly phased out yet.
