I currently have a Leadtek 7800gtx I'm upgrading my rig and I'm contemplating going sli and getting another! Firstly can I mix an nvidia 7800gtx with a leadtek 7800gtx? I'm not a huge gamer but I would appreciate a little graphics upgrade with my new CPU and mobo etc etc......

Do you guys think this is worth my while or would I be much better of just buying a 8800gt or something and paying a fair bit more?

So will going 7800gtx sli be a nice cheap little upgrade? What performance can I expect?

Thanks

The gains with SLI are so-so really. The main benefit of my SLI is that it seems to give me pretty much free AA and AS. The real benefits are only seen at high res and high AA/AS levels.

You'd see a much better gain going to a single 8800GT imo.

What's the rest of your system like?

thanks bonjour.... I'm going to have a q6600 with four gig of ram running on a p5n-E SLI mobo. I also have a 24" monitor, will sli help with the high res?

I will be running vista 64bit also.

The 7800's just won't cut it with that monitor. 8800GT's or 9600GT's in SLI should run games at full res. Thinking of 9600GT's for my board since the N650i chipsets are 2 x 8 lane. Perfomance should be in the ball park of the 9800GTX being touted as due for release since this is actually a pair of slighly downclocked 8800's back to back and split to work in a single 16x PCI-E slot

Make sure the cards are the 512MB versions.

I'm using the Gigabyte N650i SLI DS4L in one of my PCs which is only dual x8 PCI-e in SLI mode and there is absolutely NO performance drop with 2x 8800GT in SLI over 2x 8800GT in SLI on PCI-e x16 upto 1920x atleast - I've not tried 2560x modes yet.
