Had a reinstall today, might reinstall vista over the weekend.

Downloaded, my things from the EA Store, a set that I saw, and the new neighbourhood.

They download fine, but do nothing when I click install, I'm ill today so I've being trying it over and over again, and nothing happens. Really ****ing fed up with it now.

Bloody EA.
I still don't like the EA Download Manger, the EA Store is nice.

Quick question folks (don't often venture in here 'cos I'm one of those nasty smelly console gamers!)

GF's daughter went out and bought Sims 3 yesterday. She's a sod for not checking requirements on games against her laptop, and Sims3 apparently needs 2Gb of RAM to run, yet her laptop only has 1Gb.

Is there any 'tweaks' or patches that can force the installation (legal of course), onto hard drive, can she increase Virtual Memory or any other things or is it literally a case of me going out to buy her a new DIMM to stick in her laptop.

Cheers folks.

Will it not install at all? Never heard of a game not installing due to unmet requirements. Usually, they just don't run very well, or at all, but it still installs.

I don't know about any tweaks to get it to install, but I'd go out and get some more RAM anyway, it's cheap enough, and it'll improve performance overall as well.

No doubt her laptop will have 2x512MB sticks in though, manufacturers love doing that, so you'll either need a 2GB kit of 2x1GB sticks, or a 2GB stick, so you can get 2 or 2.5GB. You could go for 4GB, but it's likely that the laptop has a 32bit OS, so it'd be pretty pointless (32bit operating systems only use up to about 3-3.5GB).

Here's what I'd get. http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-142-CS&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=936 or http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-144-CS&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=936

There's a cheaper 2x1GB one, but it's out of stock.

Well I just ran the game post update for about 40mins solid and didn't get a single crash. The game felt a ton smoother too. I am either lucky or my crash to desktop issues have been resolved.

this should arrive today for the mrs... gotta install it on my machine tho as her old one wont run it and the chap we were buying one pulled out at the very last minute :(

The Sims 2 killed our laptop by cooking the graphics card... then the mrs shut the laptop down without giving the fan chance to cool it... so the temps just kept going up and it killed the motherboard :o best not cook my gfx card!

That just sounds like bad laptop design.

I see nothing about Error Code 12 / 13 errors which are seriously annoying
I did get those by the bucketload. If it wasn't CTD's it would be an Error 12/13 shoved in my face. I haven't seen one since the patch though... so I can actually play the game longer than 10mins for once.

That's good to hear :) on both accounts. Really do hope Error Code 12/13 are now fixed, about 4 times now I've lost a good hour or two's fiddling due to this, although partially my fault I guess due to not saving more frequently.

I lol'd at that a bit, what nutter would anywhere near that amount of saved games

That just sounds like bad laptop design.

yeh it is, it was rubbish... so guess what we did, bought another laptop made by the same company!! i dont use it though.

Anyway this game has arrived and now crashes repeatidly... competely random point within the game... it can go for 5 minutes or 90 minutes or working fine and then crash... there is no consistency i.e. zooming out crashes it or using the bath crashes it... it just randomly freezes the entire machine.

Once when i restarted the machine non of the hard drives showed up so the computer tried to boot of the CD drive... turning it off and on again fixed this...

this game kills things i swear, i've had the same install of XP for over 2 years and everything has been fine, no major slow downs or anything... install the sims and it all goes mental. I never played the game without the 1.3 patch so am not sure if the issue is with the patch or not, some people on other forums have said that the patch made things worse...

anyone else experiencing this? Any solutions knocking about?

Are you playing in windowed mode by any chance? I often crash to desktop in windowed mode with no errors, but have never crashed in fullscreen mode.

Still getting Error Code 12 / 13 also :/

Frostie seems to describe what I was getting, but on my desktop rig. I had to keep saving every 5mins because of it but the patch has fixed it all for me and I've played a solid hour or so without any issue in fullscreen mode.

There are no real solutions to solve the CTD issues. You could look at the 'two' official forums, but they're filled with the type of plebs who recommend you paste a dxdiag log and get no where as a result.
