Does anyone NOT get lag when they scroll across the map, over houses etc on the Sims 3???

Got a new build:
Intel Quad core 12mb cache 2.87ghz, OCd to 3.77ghz
Radeon 4870 Pre-overclocked
4gb ram @ 1066mhz/5-5-5-15

But i still get that juddery lag when going across the map!!!
 
No installed this on my PC (sig) but I have seen it running on an athlon 64 x2 2.6ghz 7900gs, 3gig DDR2 and it ran ok really but with the lag you mention. I was quite impressed.
 
Same for my 4870 rig too. I get tearing and lag when scrolling about. Graphics settings seem to have no impact. I am using older 9.4 drivers though, just keep forgetting to update them.
 
It is the game. There is a massive Sims 3 thread somewhere over the past few pages where I whine about problems, and so do others. It is a very buggy game with poor performance on certain rigs.

I haven't played it for weeks now because I have to save every 5mins incase I get a randomn crash to desktop.

We have two reasonably low spec pcs one a Celeron and the other an AMD. The AMD has 2gb memory and a 5200 128mb card and the celeron 1gb memory and 5200 64mb card

You would think the Celeron would be the more prone to crashing but it never crashes whereas the amd always does. Speed wise for their spec machines it performs better than Sims 2.
 
sunlitsix, what spec is your PC?

I have all the latest drivers, in fact i didnt use any of the CDs, I went straight to the manufacturers websites to get all the drivers, I even updated the BIOS.
my graphics version is 8.620.0.0 15/5/2009 for the Radeon 4870

It feels like a RAM problem to me, it's like as if it has so many objects etc to load when you scroll that even 4gb can't keep up. Seems a bit...wrong to me but hey ho haha

Is there anything i can do to cure this? any patches? fixes? drivers?
 
Ram usage is amongst the problems yes. Despite having 4GB, I have on several occasions checked task manager only to see 3gb of usage.

Having read the two (rolleyes) EA forums for the game, it seems a lot of people are experiencing this and many other issues, and there are gamers not experiencing any problems. There is no pattern to the poor performance of the game, trust me I've looked.

My last theory was that crashing/slowness may have been related to content downloaded from the EA Store, but I haven't had the time to prove it.
 
It can't be that, I'm running sims3 as standard and haven't download or uploaded anything from the EA store/downloader. :(

oh well, as long as the game plays i suppose ahaha
If anyone finds a fix let us know!

it doesnt even say all the ram is being used, says like 70% :S

Everything turned right up

No problems.
 
And no lag?? :S

I recon it's ATI cards myself :S

My GFs bro has a similar spec PC to mine, only with a lower speed processor, but he was a 9800GT, and his doesnt lag :S


I take it theres no point in me buying another 4 gig if yours doesnt lag at 3gb? haha
dont you get any lag when you move across the map?


Is anyone here NOT getting lag, and has an ATI card? :p
