Singapore Grand Prix 2011, Marina Bay Street Circuit - Race 14/19

I'm not sure about it being a good deal or not...but £50M is heck of a lot of money, by any body's standards. Good on him, if his agents were able to negotiate such a lucrative contract, especially in today's financial climate.

I think McLaren may regret that. Button is certainly riding a wave at the moment and it appears they are riding it with him!.

Like he has been for about 2 1/2 seasons (lack of development / money at Brawn making it more difficult during his Championship win in the latter 1/2 of the season)

He kept pace with LH for most of last season, and is outracing him on a lot of circuits this season (and given KERS issue in Valencia, and team failures at Silverstone and Nurburgring - would be out of reach already of LH catching him at all)

Admitedly he needs to improve /be more consistant in qualifying and possibly work at his starts, but I think you (like a lot around here) are doing him an injustice that its only a current "wave"

Reason: The obscenely high collision rate.
In all other departments, Hamilton is top notch.

Personally think he still needs to learn how to manage the life of his tyres better on most circuits - he wants to go 105% as soon as he starts / gets out of the pits rather than easing into it slowly and having the life extended

If you take Hamilton's collisions, you will find that there is nothing wrong with his speed across the full race distance (and this covers tyre management). The main problem is him not finishing races or getting penalties or taking extra pit-stops to deal with the collisions.

If LH was performing normally this year I think this deal wouldn't have been as large as 50mil. That's all.

There is definitely a wave being ridden.

I think that Button, Vettel and Alonso have been the only top drivers to master the new Pirelli tyres this year. Alonso and Button have done tyre brand swaps in years gone by, so they have past experience. Vettel hasn't, which does annoyingly make him stand out as special :p, but then he has an awesome car as well...

I don't think Hamilton has a serious issue with the Pirelli tyres. He made a mistake early in the season with them but then bounced back the subsequent race and won it by using his tyre resources masterfully. He knows how to win races on Pirelli tyres, I just think he hasn't quite mastered them fully yet like the other 3 top drivers. Being stuck behind MSC at Monza due to overheated tyres is one example of why I think this.

Well actually there is a huge difference (IF you want to see it)

Over a number of races, over different stints between pitstops, he may be faster initially (but seemingly taking more life out of the tyres) but by the end of the stint JB is nearly always closer to him (or past him) before one or other stops first (without any incident occuring to muddy the water)

There is definitely a wave being ridden.

.

Well then its a tsunami as its been going on for so long against someone considered to be a superior driver (and thats without three mechanical faults for JB vs none for Hamilton considerably benefitting the latter)

Just seen this on twitter. I'm confused.

Still no official grid but Renault's @AlanPermane confirmed that they agree Kobayashi is seventh and have no problem with that

Why is anyone still talking about the grid at Singapore, that race is done and dusted ;)

Just watched the highlights, I'd like to think Hamilton will bounce back next season but he seems to making error after error still, he had a good chance at pole earlier and blew it.

He seems to have gone steadily downhill ever since he kicked his dad out of the pit lane.

edit: doh wrong thread. :p
