Note, I started writing this thread, thinking the race was this coming weekend. Once I started, I remembered that it's a three week break, not a two week break but I carried on anyway.

The race weekend is Friday 30th September to Sunday 2nd October 2022.

Singapore

When was the track built?

The Marina Bay Circuit arrived on the scene in 2008. A street track with the city's famous skyline as its spectacular backdrop, the initial circuit plan by Herman Tilke was refined by KBR Inc, while the event has quickly established itself as one of the standouts on the F1 calendar.

When was its first Grand Prix?

In 2008, Singapore had the honour of hosting the first night-time race in F1 history. The Grand Prix – the 15th round of that season – proved a huge hit with the teams and drivers, while Renault’s Fernando Alonso claimed a controversial victory.

What’s the circuit like?

The 5.063km Marina Bay Circuit is one of the most physically demanding on the calendar, its bumpy street surface coupled with humid conditions giving the drivers plenty to think about. With 23 corners, they are working the wheel a lot, too, around the high-speed lap – the physical stress causing them to lose as much as 3kg over the course of a race. The circuit also boasts some of the most unique features of any track on the F1 calendar, including Turn 18, which actually sees the drivers pass underneath a grandstand.

Why go?

If you want to see Singapore at its best, there’s no better time to do so than when Formula 1 arrives in the heart of this buzzing city. Get the lay of the land by taking a ride on the Singapore Flyer, a giant Ferris wheel overlooking the track’s permanent pits complex, then get stuck into Singapore’s incredible bar and restaurant scene. Cocktail fanatics should also make a pilgrimage to the famous Raffles Hotel – the proper home of the Singapore Sling (non-alcoholic versions are available!)

Just a reminder, but consider it a pre-warning - can we not have any further derogatory name calling of drivers, team bosses and the like. We don't expect you to like every driver/team, but at least keep comments respectful.

This includes but is not limited to such terms including Lulu, Crashstappen, Karen Horner, Whingey Spice etc.

Thanks Feek.

Not sure I can bring myself to watch. For some reason I'm finding the Max dominance way more boring than years of Mercedes dominance. Likely as Rosberg gave as good as he got and when Bottas was racing at Mercedes things were much tighter.

I haven't bothered to watch this year.

Last year has been discussed lots but it really has put me off the sport. Visit here to read the race reports and general news and that's it.

Hope Mercedes get at least one win, and Ferrari win a few more to round off the year, albeit its looking doubtful on both counts going by the races!

That's a really good way of putting it actually. I might watch this, might not :o
I’ve made peace with what happened at the tail end but, we had an all time great title battle where either driver would have deserved the championship to one where the runaway winner is unchallenged even by his teammate.

Somethings keeping it interesting: can Mercedes beat Ferrari/win a race, battle between 1 armed McLaren and Alpine and if Schumacher does enough to get a drive somewhere else.

This three week gap really hasn't done them any favours, I've been chatting with some friends and we're all a bit 'meh' right now. The championship is all but over and this long break has killed the momentum.

It doesn't make sense to me to have back to back to back races, then a three week gap given that the summer break wasn't that long ago too. Then again many things about the calendar don't make sense.
