Howdy all,

Quick question really. If it was your money, would you buy a single 512GB SSD or Raid 2 x 256GB?

Price wise I cant see a massive difference right now and I have had good raid experience in the past, just looking to get some opinions really. I am looking at the OCZ Agility 3s in 256GB and the Agility 4s in 512GB.

Its not for my OS if that helps. Although my OS right now is only on a 60gb Agility 1 its more then fast enough to boot. This is to replace my Sammy F3 500gb games drive.

Thoughts?

single will be faster.

RAID has to load the RAID drivers so add another 10 seconds onto boot speeds.

You won't notice the RAID 0 speed increase from a normal SSD. It just looks better from the figures.

Used to have my m4's in RAID 0

Nice advice. As I say I wouldnt be booting with them, its just for games. If its slower to RAID I might just get a single then.

For loading large games, RAID 0 SSDs will absolutely definitely be faster, and it makes no sense to deny that. if a game has a 10 second loading time that is then almost halved to say 5-6 seconds then that is a real world outcome. I would say that RAID 0 makes more sense if you load particularly large texture maps. So modded games or, for example, Crysis 2 HD texture pack. It is simply a balance between the lower reliability of RAID 0 and the performance gains. For the majority of users around 500MB/s is more than enough- that might not be you though.

I managed to get a 512GB Agility 4 for just £249 so I went with that instead of the 2 SSDs. Thanks for the advice! :D
