Single D5 Pump

Hi All,

Would a single Laing D5 Vario pump be enough to maintain good flow through a CPU water block, 2x 980ti water block, two 480mm rads and a single 280mm rad. Or should I add a second pump?

It should be ok; is this hard line tubing or soft?

How many 90° bends are you looking at?

The vario might need to be set to a slightly higher speed, but mine is cooling two 970 full blocks, a cpu block, a 360 rad and a 240 rad and I have it set to 3.

A second pump would mean you could set them to slower speeds and keep your noise down, but that depends on if the slight increase in noise (and I mean slight) will actually bother you, your fans might be louder anyway

I have mine with 2 GPU blocks, CPU block, 2x 480 rads and a 240 rad. I have mine on setting 3. 2-3 little difference. 3-5 little difference. By little I mean a degree or two.

Mine is also acrylic 12/16 tube with a couple 45° and 90° fittings and bends. It should be fine. Dual pumps are more for longevity in case one fails.

Just get a good one like EKs new vario x. Offers about 20% more hydraulic performance over the laing d5.

One D5 will be fine.

Had mine on cpu block, mosfet block, 2 gpu block, 2x 480 rads, 2x240 rads, tube res. 13/19mm tubing in my 900D cpu, gpu both overclocked. and i run the pump at 2-3 speed. only used 5 for filling up and gettting rid of bubbles.

Laing makes all D5's,the EK pump is a stock Laing D5 vario. There is no difference in pump performance.

If you want a properly powerful D5 then get the D5 Strong and a 24v controller for it.

OP,a single D5 is plenty for your loop. Dual D5's are more for quadfire/multiple large rads etc.

Sure the pump is the same, however the EK pump tops are of a better design allowing for greater performance that the original stock d5 laing.

Alphacool and Bitspower do good quality pump tops as well, but yeah, don't go with stock.

This is true nearly all (Bitspower's D5 top actually lowers performance) aftermarket tops. You need to make that distinction between tops and pumps for clarity.

Stock.

If you have ever looked at the volute of a BP D5 top then its clear to see why.

Very quiet and nice to look at tho.

This is a test of the old dual top which has the same volute structure,it gets handily nobbled by a couple of stock Laing tops.

Thanks for all your help guys, one pump seemed to do the trick. Temps are good even with overclocks.
