So I went overkill and purchased a whopping machine.

Problem I'm thinking now Is did I get the Right Mobo and GPU.

Now My Mobo is

YOUR BASKET
1 x Asus P9X79 PRO Intel X79 (Socket 2011) DDR3 Motherboard £239.99
Total : £250.79 (includes shipping : £9.00).

And I have 2 EVGA GTX680 4GB SLI.

What I am thinking is would 1 GPU be better than 2,3 or 4 of its equivalent ?

Also Am I right in saying my Mobo can only support 3 GPU in SLI... Would this mean I would have to upgrade IF I wanted 4 way SLI ?

The more you add the less scaling you get, is 4 any good at all ?? I don't know.
Nvidia are great at SLI I would get the two best cards you can and stick with that.

2 Card SLI is the best for scaling. Anything over two cards and games or drivers can become a little flaky.

The 600 series does offer decent 2 way SLI Scaling and most game support it, so you'll be fine on that front. You'll definitely be able to use 3 way SLI too.
4 way SLI should be supported by the board with dual GPU cards, but there are only enough PCI-E slots for 3 double wide cards from what I can tell.

Ah right,

So what your saying is 2 Way SLI works better than 4 Way SLI ? If that is the case I will keep to 2 GPUs and not worry about having 1 monster one or 4 smallers in SLI

Tbh their ARE a few situations when 1 monster gpu can better an SLi setup, but generally they scale very well if driver/game support is there :)

Personally? I'd switch my cards every couple of years to keep the performance fresh and able to max it all out

I use that motherboard and it's great. Having a couple of GTX 680 4GB cards in SLI on that board will still give you a lot of GPU grunt for the upcoming games. Don't upgrade your cards until you think performance is lower than acceptable :)

As for 3 and 4 way SLI remember this option is mostly only available to the higher end graphics cards.
