** SINGLE GTX 580 3GB VS SINGLE 7970 3GB MINI REVIEW BY OcUK **

That is surprising, only 20 odd % faster than a 580, that's not great as I'm hearing between 50-100% performance increase for the new nvidia cards. I'll be hanging on to my 580 and 3D vision untill Kepler arives. Great review Gibbo, very informative. Happy new year to all.

I think the 7970 would suit a eyefinity setup I'm planning with 3 1920x1080 screens. but can someone tell me if I these allow you to drive the 3rd screen from the HDMI with the need to use an active display port adapter?

Still not going to rid of my gtx 580 3gb for the sake of 20% extra fps...

How about you test these cards ona "normal" system like an i5 2500K with a 8gb ram and see what they kick out then as i think most/all of dont own that set up system you guys are trying it on.. Just an idea..

Appreciate the hard work, superb, keep it coming.

But left wondering what it means to i5 2500K users here on Earth :p

Hi there

New scores from myself.

1x 7970 @ 1140MHz core & 7100MHz memory (Stock voltage & Stock cooler)

I've managed to unlock the clocks a little more by using an older version of MSI afterburner (1.6.0 Beta 5). Voltage is still locked though. :(

The maximum stable and visual corruption free I've managed is 1140MHz core and 7100MHz memory.

This has given another 5-7% performance boost over the previous OC scores, very impressed. :)

Nice BUT... not as nice as I was hoping...

Seen so many of the 7970 benchmarks now... impressed for a single card but after recently upgrading my GPU's, there's nothing here to upgrade to me thinks... 7970 being around what, 20-30% slower than a 6990... is great... but anyone like originally stated on 6950's in crossfire or above, don't bother upgrading really i think we gleam from this? For now, I'll hold onto what I have, and see what nVidia have to offer.

if you now building a new system, to NOT go 7 series would be daft though although i think the prices are a little high tbh.

Hi there

Right now I AM IMPRESSED!!

New results at 1225MHz Core & 7800MHz RAM:-

Maximum GPU temperature at these clock speeds was 72c, mighty impressive indeed. :)

P.S. SINGLE CARD!!

Sexy time.

So with a single 7970 I could probably get an average of 60fps in unigine with my Hazro at 2560x1440 at these clocks hmm.

Not to mention once more stable drivers have been released.

good card but the price is totally inflated

think i'll stick to 2 x 560ti's for over £200 less

the 3gb vram is nice to see though, hopefully 2gb will be standard from now on for all cards

Would love to be able to afford this card :(

7870 should be in my price range, hope it overclocks like these 7970s

Have they given an official release date 7870 yet?
