Single-player or Multi?

Games like Fifa - I actually play that just for the manager mode, rare I play online, but for games like C&C 3 when it comes out I want for online play and the occasional AI skirmish!

Depends on the game surely?

I mean, I'm not going to play CS for it's single-player, but I'm hardly jumping online with Pheonix Wright either. I play both SP and MP games, but they're usually tailored towards their particular area, so I couldn't really say which I opt for at first.

Well I only play Madden nfl 2007 on the pc now.
Went straight on to the multiplayer, havent even botherd with the single player.
Was different with something like HL2 though, completed that then went on to the multiplayer.

I think about 90% of the people on my friends list on XBL have come from PGR2.Its the most amazing console experience i've had to date.

Agree with Weeball, I think it depends very much on both the genre and the game and the type of game you like. Some games are developed with single-player very much in mind (e.g. Half-life 2), while others such as the Battlefield series are the opposite. I've been a PC gamer since 1990, but only bothered to play online seriously when I bought GTR2 for the PC. I'll probably play Forza 2 online when it comes out on the 360, but couldn't be bothered with the likes of GRAW2 (due to a lack of success!)

Quite frankly i think this topic cant be answered by a simple answer, their are too many factors...

Sure its going to depend on the game and its also going to depend on the modes the game supports. Peoples opinion of online varies so much depending on how they judge their past experiences with it.

Take CO-OP for instance its probably going to appeal more to gamers that arnt so fond of the whole multiplayer aspects yets its a great benifit in some games. I totally agree that online multiplayer can be a very mixed bag but like any social event it depends on the people your with.

Its not usually a case of a fault with Live or a fault with the game but sometimes im just not in the mood at all and if you have a few bad experiences from online it can be off putting to go back to it. Some of the best fun ive had gaming has come from online, because the gaming was so much fun with the people sharing the same experience something AI cant do. Its when the craik starts flowing and you get a bit of banter so i know it can go from really good to really sucking...

Games that come along adding online features can only help to let people get features from the game AI cant provide. FM2 is an example of this with the online auctions, car paint schemes or car setups. You then have your career compared to other peoples for thousands of possible stats. Talking of which id of loved FM2 to of had a CO-OP mode within the career section which would at least allow lesser multiplayer online fans enjoy some of the single palyer part of the game with a friend yet still benifit from their single player campaign.

One thing is for sure online and multiplayer gaming isnt for going away and is now pretty much becoming a standard feature all i can say is gamers that have had bad experiences best not to give up because somewhere out there is a person just like you with a skill to match your own and a personality you can get on with.

no matter how much I play on my own I always get beaten in MP
That's why, in most games very few skills translate from single player to multiplayer, especially in RTS and FPS games.

I go straight to multiplayer. To me games are social things and not something to sit on your own and do.

Have to agree with that philosophy myself. As the GRAW regulars know I don't bother with the single player side of the game, I just want to have a laugh online!
