Sins of a Solar Empire: Diplomacy released.

Does anyone know where I can get maps for Sins that has more than three players? I have downloaded add-on packs and there doesn't seem to be any more maps?

for multiplayer? you will be on "small maps" when you host a game click "change maps" under the map list to switch between the different sizes of maps

Anyone bought this off impulse and if yes is it worth the 25 gbp ?
Once bought do you have to download a separate steam like program just to run/download it or is it straight to desktop no strings attached, never had dealings with impulse before ?

no strings attached. No need for impulse to be open to launch it.

*edit yes its worth it :)

I bought it on impulse, and I have to say I'm not 100% taken with it yet. It's very slow, or so I find it. A heck of a lot to research and difficult to start off.

I mihgt gamble on this being the last expansion, and pick up the next all-in-one pack that comes on offer over at Steam. Is the series available on Steam? In the meantime, I'm just waiting for Stardock to sell the expansions to GalCiv II at a reasonable price.

I have only played the game as TEC (with no expansions) so far but I felt like this to start with. After a couple of goes you get the hang of it.

Advent are my side of choice, just because I love strikecraft. An armarda of Halcyon Carriers, Aeria drone hosts with Hangar defences to keep my planets safe. Yes, it is very vulnerable to flak, but the idea is to have enough fighters and bombers to nuke them before they cause much damage.

There is a 'Quick Start' option since Entrenchment..that does the things most people do straight away, such as: upgrade your home planet's civilian Infrastructure, place mines on resource asteroids, build scouts and a capital ship factory. (You do know you get your first cap ship free? I ask because I played for a while before I realised that :o)

You can also speed the game up with the +/- keys if you are waiting for research to complete. You shouldn't be though as there's always something to be doing.

I just bought the double expansion pack off of impulse. I found the experiance quite easy really and the d/l speed was fast. Is it worth just playing entrenchment for a while before loading up diplomacy? I heard that diplomacy makes the AI super hard?

Go straight for Diplomacy, they all include the stuff from earlier versions. And Diplomacy includes two extra difficulties, rather than making the AI itself that much harder. There are some tweaks, I believe, but that just makes things better :)

Do the new diplomatic crusers actually do anything? As far as I can tell they just float around getting blown up.

Also, the AI is totally unrealistic with its missions, when I refuse to blow up 20 ships within the first 30 mins of playing it has a hissy fit and declares war on me. I dont have enough time (or money for that matter) to research my civlilian and military let alone the diplomatic options.

The AI's already at war with you anyway, just ignore them. At least that's what I do. I ignore them all while I spread out, and then eventually I start butting heads with one of the AI's, and there's usually another AI with a bounty on their head, so that's just a bonus.

Diplomacy's made much better with the diplomacy expansion as well, you can see exactly why different factions like/dislike you.

Ah that's probably why then, I am letting the timer run out rather than refusing the mission.

Got the patch! ta.

I spent so much time and money fighting hordes of super men pirates that I eventually lost my 8 hour game last night. Grrr! :( .... I think im doing something wrong as I just cant seem to get enough money to build a fleet and do all the research that i need to do.

Keep meaning to try this again, when I first bought it I enjoyed it massively for about 12 hours and then everything just seemed to get ultra repetitive (and this is coming from a mmo player):( I heard some patches later on fixed some of the issues I had with the gameplay, I will check it out later :)

Playing as TEC I usually concentrate early on researching LRM's and upgrading their weapons in the Military Tree. You can't do it all at that stage.

You need to expand pretty quickly to get the resources coming in (as well as having enough logistics slots). Try and get an asteroid/planet or two adjacent to your home planet as soon as possible and research and build Trade Ports once you get half a dozen planets or so.

You need to upgrade the civilian infrastructure of your planets or they actually cost money rather than provide taxes. Searching for artifacts early on is too expensive so I don't bother. (I noticed last night playing as Advent that you get an indication that 'something of interest' is indicated, don't know if that is another difference between the races).

Keep an eye on the Pirate Bounty. You can use that to direct them against other factions. On the other hand they can be useful for levelling up your capital ship early on. Of course you can also play without them, as well as lower the AI difficulty.

There is so much to learn though. Last night I thought I'd complete a couple of achievements by winning a game with Vasari and Advent. I was surprised at how different the three are. Loved the Advent soundset...nothing as scary as religious loons. ;)
