Sky At Night is 50!

Sir Patrick Moore is on my 'must meet and shake hands' with list.

It's a list of people I need to shake with before I (or more probably they) die.

Just trying to anticipate his whereabouts over the next few months.

Anyone help?

Did you watch the anniversary programme today?

It was really good. Sir Patrick Moore is an incredible presenter, and person in general.

Angus Higgins

Yep - he's a huge personality in every way.

A true inspiration and maybe the last of his kind?

Damn I missed this. What was it called?

I cant believe he has only missed presenting about one of the sky at night programs due to illness in it's 50 year run.

It will be a shame when he dies. :(

Got a lot of respect for Patrick Moore. Have always enjoyed watching Sky at Night.

Have always thought that if people in general were more interested in Astronomy rather than watching crud like Eastenders there would be no reason that it would need to be on at such a late time. I can't help but feel it's infinitely more significant than most of the garbage I'm subjected to on TV.

I read his autobiography last year, I'd recommend it.

I got to see a lecture of his a few years ago. Think i got to shake his hand, definitely got one of his books that he used a stamp to sign, he is pretty old after all.

Nice!

Looks like my idea of shaking his hand is fairly improbable. :(

He will always be to people of a certain age...

The Gamesmaster!

He is a wonderful talker though. He's so passionate about his subject, he creates so much enthusiasm about it in other people.

The man is a legend!

- tell us more
ie a drink of alcohol :p. He'd given a lecture to some students my dad taught and my dad and some colleagues gave him a lift home, and ended up getting completely wasted at Moore's house.

The 50th program was on about a month ago, he went forward in time, and backwards with some dodgy gamesmaster like head floating

Oh - I thought you referring to some other **** up!

Nice story!

Saw him the other day in a wheel chair with his family, me and my mate had to do a double take!

"is that patrick moore?!"

"no way!"

"yes way dude!"

haha, i cant believe i just typed dude, its like Bill & Ted's/Waynes's World...

But yeah, anyways, he did seem very frail looking, poor guy, he is a legend.

I loved the gamesmaster days, and it is true, you dont get people like Patrick Moore these days, which is a very sad state of affairs. :(

Phew, when I saw the thread title, I thought the gamesmaster had croaked it, glad to see he is still about.

The gamesmaster was so cool!
I think what makes him such a good presenter is the unique voice he has
