Hi all would be grateful if you could take a look at my site and give me any input as to the design and coding.

I'm creating a CMS / Blog system using ASP.Net, C# and SQL (will make source public if it turns out ok!)

It will be for my travel articles/tips and also some coding articles and a gallery.

The URL is http://www.travellingdev.co.uk

Thanks in advance as usual!

Stephen.

Looking good m8!!!

On first impressions, I'm not keen on the Orange colour you are using for the H1, H2, H3, H4 etc.

But maybe that's just me!!!

Personally I like the orange, but only against the white background - not the gray.

Also i'm not sure if it's intentional or not, but the right hand side bar sits too high and intrudes into the gray bar that contains the 'home' icon.

Also, for all the wasted gray space on the right, you could perhaps put a solid thin border to the right, and then tile a faint image like scanlines or such? Just an idea.

Thanks for the replies :)

Points taken - orange definitely the wrong colour against the grey - back to the drawing board on the one!

@MMD - so if I understand you correctly - finish the wrapper with a solid border and add a subtle bg image to the page?

The huge expanse of grey to the right (at least on my monitor, I haven't tried in other res) is a little off-putting as the site looks unfinished as-is. If you were to blank off the end (if that's what you're calling the wrapper?) and tile a bg image that is subtle, maybe even 5% transparency, it would look like a finished article.

Not a criticism, as I personally like the look and feel of the site!

Quite nice website there mate. It's simple but effective unlike some of my designs :p
You have all the ingredients there for a succesful website.
Some minor seo thingies if you are interested would be:
1. Adding appropriate titles for the pages since all of them have the same title which is bad.
2. The is no description in any of the pages so you should add some after some research the same applies for the titles.
3. No keywords, some say that search engines don't use them any more BUT better have them than not.
4. I have doubts if search engines can read you menu like that. Either change it OR add the menu in text form in the footer or somewhere else for the spiderman, i mean spiders to crawl your website with no problems.

In general, good job mate.

There are also some other things to look for but in general a good website mate.

not sure I like the black. i'm looking at the site on a 24" and with the site being a fixed width and to the left over 50% of the screen is black and it seems to not blend in. not sure what to suggest as I usually not a fan of fixed width left aligned sites. much prefer centred ones.

Thanks again for replies :) I suppose I could centre the site - it wouldn't be too much work just to see what it would look like :) I'll give it a try.

@theforce - my codebehind will take care of keywords and descriptions but not set up the database on my host yet :) Good points and will take heed thanks :)

yep looks a lot better in my opinion, but as with all design its difficult to please everyone.
