Cheaper alternative to veeam if anyone's looking at that for this but tight on budget: Arcserve unified data protection. Can highly recommend it.

Just thought i'd point that out seeing as it's not that well known yet, (obviously arcserve is, but not for the right reasons...lol.) fantastic product though.

Really? Hate Arcserve (UDP & RHA) with a passion. Every day we have failed backups for whatever reason that have worked for months previously. Arcserve support don't know their bums from their kneecaps. Everyone has a different experience though, yours may just be more favourable than mine!

I wish, but no... The existing SAS will be relocated and used as the 'backup' for replicating the new iSCSI SAN.

I guess Veeam is like VMware, costs a lot but is the best They now offer partner pricing where you can get per VM licensing, saving your client buying socket licenses.
