sk3lph's brand new Media/Cinema room

That must be awesome for some peace and quiet away from the good wife! I honestly wouldn't budge from there.

I have a pretty decent sized loft space but its a long way off doing anything to it and it will probably be turned into a bedroom/en suite as our bathroom is downstairs but its got potential
! I'll create a thread in about 10 years time.

Watch this space :D

Thanks as always for the kind comments.

I don't smoke or drink (apart from the odd beer) so meeting the cost has been driven by a single minded obsession over the course of a number of years to save up the money needed.

Also an understanding wife has been required and the absence of kids and having the right shape of house too. Worth bearing in mind that a fair chunk of the cost will hopefully be returned when the house is sold, but I'd obviously be a bit gutted if I had to do that in the near future.

Understanding wife is THE key one :P

Mind you if she was the sort of person who would think a 32" television is a perfectly acceptable size from 10ft away then I doubt you would have married her :D

You are indeed right, there were a number of requirements that had to be met for the project to go ahead and only one not being possible would have scuppered the whole idea, however support from the missus is probably top of the list.

That isn't to say it's been an easy ride, months of builders on site and having the garage partially demolished and plaster dust everywhere in the house certainly didn't go unnoticed and the statement "I wish I'd never agreed to this" may have been said more than once, however you know what they say about pain and gain.

Of course the situation I'm in now is that it's pretty difficult to get me out of the house of an evening so thats breeding it's own issues, I also need to make sure I manage my time effectively so I don't get into trouble for being absent for too long :D

I know the feeling. Whilst I don't have the same setup I do have a projector etc but I had it before I met SWMBO. Now she uses it and loves it. Before I doubt I would've got the sign off to spend £1000 setting it all up.

its one of those...if she has never used it, she would never miss it or want it. Whereas we're men. We like shiny toys :D

The missus factor has a strong influence on most of the people reading this forum I would imagine. Sign off on the purchase of an item for sure (unless done under the Radar) and also negotiation on where it can go.

I've had mates having to give in to speaker locations in completely unsuitable places where they are either practically right next to each other or in extreme cases on the floor, behind sofas or pointing in the wrong direction above head height.

Agreed, it's about finding a balance, which applies to a whole relationship, not just AV gear.

My ex enjoyed my AV setup but when I moved in with her, wasn't having any of it "you don't need extra speakers" "there's no way we're trailing speaker cable around the room" etc

Like I say, ex :p

My fiance however whilst it may not be her "thing" she knows I know a lot more about the subject and I love it/technology. When putting the speakers in the living room in our apartment she was asking me where they go rather than telling me where they could go :p

I bet she, knowing full well you'd want to take your gear with you, didn't say a word about it until after you'd moved in!

This is making me think of the Daffodil Daydream conversation from Deadpool. :D

How time flies - its approaching 2 years since I finished this project and still loving it, many great cinema nights have been had in there and I love the reactions it gets when people see it for the first time. I've since fitted a turntable as its a great music room as well and the door is also now black, which does indeed look much better.

I can upload some new pics if people want - been a while since this thread was on page one so this is really for the people who haven't seen it and are looking for ideas for their own rooms.
