I need to revive this thread just to say this game is awesome!

I held off getting it as I try to avoid games that might be frustrating, and from what I've read and trying the demo, Skate had the potential to be one such game. So I got it off MM now that it can be had pretty cheap thinking that even if I do start wanting to smash my pad I can just put it down and it's no great loss, very glad that I did now.

It does have a fairly steep learning curve, but once you get used to the controls it starts to shine. I'm a million miles away from mastering them, but I've already picked up enough to at least feel competent.

Going by the 2 or 3 hours I've put in so far, there was no need to hold off for so long. But then, if I had got into it when everyone else did I wouldn't have the full game to play through fresh. :p
 
Good stuff mate. I haven't play the game for ages but may well have a bash at some point before Skate 2 comes out.

I take it you'll be getting Skate 2 fairly soon after release then?
 
Think I may do the same as you Scary just so I can get a bit of practice in. I'll be buying a new pad for Skate 2 as the one I used for the first one has an incredibly loose stick now.

I might have upload a video as I still don't have the 20 reviews achievement.

I reckon so, I always did like the look of the game but it was always those one or two things that stopped me getting it. If anything it's better than I expected now that I've got over the concerns I had with the game, so I'll definately be looking out for Skate 2.

Just mooching around doing the simple grinds and tricks is actually fun in Skate, it's reinvented the genre in the same way Tony Hawk's originally did for me.
 
I also bought this 2nd hand last week but so far find it more frustrating than fun and I am thinking if it will be worth the hassle to learn the controls and tricks.

I like the idea of using the analogue sticks but so far I suck at it :(

Any tips for a Skate n00b?
 
Have you done any of the tutorials in the career mode? Doing those and just roaming around trying stuff has been enough for me to feel comfortable with the controls.

I think getting used to the controls intitially might be the steapest challenge, only 2-3 hours in and I'm already at the point where I now feel it's steady progression.
 
As wedgie says just take your time in career mode and skate about explore alittle. career mode will push you through the controls gently enough and then just keep practicing on stuff. The comunity center and school really are the perfect places to learn the basics :) also check the trick book in the options

lol, it's at my mates house at the moment with a bunch of X-Files DVD and Jericho to send back to people (as he lives right next to the post office) and he's gone to bloody Liverpool so I have to wait til he gets back.
 
EAs skate website is absolute donkey, I've followed all the guides and still login to my account. When I click log in it's just refreshing the page. How did you all do it?
