Skiing mid layer

I have base layers and recently got a Rab Latok alpine outer jacket but am on the lookout for a good breathable mid layer.

I usually take a fleece (quite heavy, maybe 200 or 300 gram) but it gets too hot and is not breathable

I've read good things about Marmot DriClime Windshirt and Patagonia Houdini but cannot find either in UK that are in stock in medium. Maybe a 100g fleece would be better?

Could anyone recommend a good mid layer for ~£50-£80

Found a Marmot DriClime Windshirt so bought that. Combined with the thin breathable base layer and hard shell i should be sorted now. Will take the fleece just in case

Anyone else been skiing or going recently? I'm heading to Arc 1800 in ~3 weeks

Good moisture wicking base layer and well ventilated/breathable hard shell outer layer combo has always worked well for me when skiing and boarding.

If I had only one skiing tip to give, it would be buy 3 pairs of super breathable cushioned socks.

Decent base layer, then a hoodie then a decent ski coat does me and I don't seem to get too hot whatever the weather.
I like the hoodie as its easy to unzip if its quite warm outside, but if its cold its easy to pull the hood up as well under helmet/woolly hat. The hoodie is a very high neck one with a press stud on collar

La plagne for me in just over 4 weeks :)

I don't think you need to spend £50+ on this unless you are going for a whole season. As long as you have a good base layer it doesn't matter so much what you use as long as it's appropriate for the temperature. If your current fleece is too hot just get a micro fleece or just wear a t-shirt over your base layer.

My three layers are:

Base layer: Thin synthetic base layer top and bottom
Mid layer: mid-weight fleece
Outer layer: good ski jacket

Im generally always comfortable in the weather conditions I encounter in the Swiss alps. If the weather would be warmer than normal I would just lose the fleece.

I certainly didn't spend 50 quid on the fleece, that is excessive imo unless you're a spec chaser. You can get perfectly good fleeces from C&A, Primark etc that do just fine, with only a minimal drop in performance from the pricier ones.

Was he off piste when it happened?

From the Daily Mail, pictures of where he was suspected of falling
