Skips

On sites we have room yes to timber / plasterboard / metals / hardcore / soils / plastics then the costs for the skips go down, on smaller sites with little room we only separate plasterboard then the rest gets sorted and recycled an the tip. We gain code points and CCS points for segregation and recycling and meets the company CSR requirements.

I went to a large tip in west London where they recycle 95% of what comes in by segregation by hand, massive operation and quite gob smacking.

Our figures for last year were less than 3% waste to landfill and that's for demolition. Construction companies really need to get their fingers out and become more cost effective when it comes to waste.

Skips I love them, can't resist looking in a skip, even on holiday, I've been known to look in skips.:o
Skips out side a shop refitting can be a gold mine, all my workshop filing cabinets came from a skip, as did loads of timber, pipe, 8'x4' ply.

And building site skips can be even better, some years ago, a local site was finishing, I had a enough sheets of foil backed plasterboard for a 3 bed house.

Last week was a good skipping week boxes of screws, fixings, locks, all unused & dumped.

+1

Cannot resist a good Skip Dive :D

I am amazed at what people throw away! I have had all sorts from sewing machines (Singer 201K, really nice too! Complete with all the tools!) to network routers out of em!

Seriously, I found this in a skip under a load of scrap wood. Could not believe it. It was immaculate. All the wrapping and the game even had it's plastic sleeve. I was up all night playing Mario. Now sitting my wardrobe doing bugger all.
