Charge me 40quid though?

Unless you have access to the touchscreen examiner computer thingy, only way I think.

If you can get in with your local dealer, they'll do it for nowt.

I'd get it done for nothing for any of my customers.

You should have known better than to ask that question on this forum Dangerous!! :) I know that it would annoy the hell out of me if my cars did this. I like to take my belt off when going thru drivethru, swapping cars over on the narrow drive etc..

You don't need access to the VAG computers. VAG-COM + Laptop + Cable is your best friend if you know what you are doing.:p

It will be a VAG-COM modification which the dealer may not want to change. Then again, wave money in front of them and they'll probably do it anyway.

Alternatively, you could buy VAG-COM and a cable yourself and try working out the correct code. Just make sure you're in the right control module first and know the correct code. Don't want something else breaking. ;)

Ok I may be able to help, dont post often but when i do i hope it helps

Its probs the same as a MK5 golf like what i have.. ie a pain in the rear. Soon as you turn the key it beeps etc.

There are two options here...

1) is to get vag com and disable it as said earlier

2) look under the seat (presuming its the same as the golf) there will be a couple of wires with plugs into the seat, Look for the plug that goes towards the seatbelt fastener thing.. unplug it and bobs your uncle no more beeps

The other wires are for side airbags and for seat heating (if you have these) but its pretty obvious which goes to the seatbelt fastener

Hope this helps

Removing this could possibly disable the seatbelt pre-tensioners which are a pretty good safety feature.

The general thinking on the golf forums is that it only tricks the car into thinking the belt is always plugged in.

The main safety concerns arrive from the front passenger seat as if involved in an accident the airbag will only go off if the seatbelt is "in"

So if u have some numpty sat without a belt on and are involved in a big accident the airbag will still go off....which i imagine could be very nasty

As the new cars are all based on the CANBUS system, I'd have thought that the wire connecting the seat would feed back to the CANBUS and tell it to tighten the pre-tensioners.

Well i cant comment for definate, but the golf forums does seem to think that the cable only relays info about the seatbelt been in place

When the cable is disconected it thinks the seatbelt is fastened so it shuts up the alarm and presumably send signals to the car that the seatbelt is in place for the airbags and the pre tensioners... but i cant say for definate that the pre tensioners will work or wont work...
