Hi all, looking at buying a Kodiaq for next car as it is a spacious 4x4 which we'll need in Wales. Looked at other cars and trucks and this suits our needs.

What are the good and, more importantly, bad points about it?

Looking at a diesel 2017 car with circa 70k miles and an L SE trim as an ideal.

What's the DSG gearbox like for use and reliability?

Anything to be wary of?

I have a face lifted 2021 VRS and really like it. The boot is huge considering the car isn't massive compared to other SUVs but I can fit 5 kids, 2 adults and 2 dogs in if I need to although generally it's not fully loaded all the time.

The DSG box is fine although the change from 1st to 2nd feels a bit rough sometimes but once you're moving there's no issues. Just have to make sure the car has been serviced regularly.

Whilst it is a 4x4 it's front wheel bias so feels like you're driving a FWD most of the time and it's not a proper 4x4 with locking diffs like a truck or off roader but for general conditions I've found it fine and if you put it in Snow mode it works surprisingly well.

I'm not sure what the infotainment is like on the pre-facelift but check it can do Apple Carplay and Android Auto, these are far better than the Skoda system and it's all I use.

If you can, get one with a Winter pack as it adds heated screen, seats and wheel. Adaptive cruise control is well worth having too.

There's not really many bad things I can think of, it's just an incredibly practical car.

Thank you, very informative cheers.

Nice to hear about the recommendations because we'll look out for that, the winter pack especially.

Had a brand new 2021 Karoq sportline with all the options for ~6 months as a stopgap, fundamentally a good car, was well built.

If i was after that class of vehicle i'd have no qualms about buying a Karoq or Kodiaq.

FWIW theres a new Kodiaq due for release in early 2024, which obv will result in price drops for the current model.

Great car along with the Superb, well built, bit dull to drive, but they arent meant to be exciting in that way.

I have it's little sister: the Kamiq. Highly practical, well designed car, nothing sensible to complain about. Utterly, utterly boring. Imagine a beige thing and then make it beiger.

Can also recommend Briskoda.net for info. On my second Kodiaq - had a 2019, now a 2023. Boring but dependable as I need 7 seats.

We have a 21’ Kodiaq. We have 4 kids so ideal size with the 7 seats. still very good boot space with one rear seat up.

It’s the 1.3 (4?) petrol auto, so mpg is around 30, not fantastic, get about 320 miles to a tank. Performance is as you’d imagine for a car that big but not sluggish, it’s a really nice car to drive long distances, we’ve drove to France a few times. Has the usual gadgets, wireless air play is brilliant but missing the rear camera, it’s a long ass car so sometimes annoying not having this.

Had no issues in 2 years of ownership.

If you have specific questions about it let me know.

1.5 isn't it? Surprised at your mpg, I get around that in my VRS (well, 20's around town) and I thought that was bad lol

I test drove a Kodiaq and it happened to be a 1.5. It's significantly wallowier than the Octavia and Super estate (I plumped for an estate instead) but also significantly slower with the same engine, though that's unsurprising given the weight etc. You had to drive it really hard to make any progress, so that'll absolutely kill mpg. I think it probably suits the 2.0 diesel better.

Good practical car though.

Looked into it. Has approximately 14% less inside storage (1750l v 2000l?) and that's the reason for going for this rather than a Discovery or pickup. Agreed it looks better but this is a do-all car.
Wow thats surprising. The Kodiaq does look longer i i thought that was the styling
