Skoda Superb III 4x4 280 - A sleeper’s journey – 280ps to 560ps

so cost was £70K+ for car plus all the mods?

I know it's a hobby and enjoyment but would honestly rather have just bought a porsche, bentley, aston or dare i say it a jag or even the lexus sports cars second hand. i don't really care what it can do on a track or on a rolling road. if i really needed a big car the the bentley. would likely have went porsche or aston though.

it's a shame after all that you are selling it. can you not just get a loan for your extension? i mean if you can drop £70K+ on a car then you should be able to get a loan for an extension or a re-mortgage. or even just pay them cash as they complete work on a monthly basis. just seems a waste after all that you have went through to make this your car and it now will no longer be.

i would be surprised though if it sold. £35K on a second hand skoda. people still hate the badge.

Your input is appreciated and noted. We are all different and having a second hand supercar is not something everyone likes, some like to be different and not everyone has the same opinion about car brands so, even if it takes some time, I am sure the right buyer will be found

Thank you all for your input. I do have a couple of offers I am considering but on the other hand I can wait for a bit longer too so the car is not going back to stock or sold for less than I believe its worth. The work done on it is exemplar and it will find the right buyer at the right time.

A brand new Skoda Superb SE L 4x4 DSG 280 PS is less than £27k brand new from broadspeed. That's probably not the cheapest you can get one.

I think that puts things into perspective a little bit.

The l&k with all the extras I have in is £34k from broadspeed (btw the broadspeed configurator shows the RRP to be £2500 less than the Skoda configurator so something is off, should have been £36.500). Add 30k of mods. That's £64k (or £66.500 with the correct full price). £34k (£36.500?) is a good saving ;) Apples and oranges :) BTW a 3 year old l&k with full extras is around £20k (£50k with mods plus a long time spent to make these x what your time is worth) so that is an even better comparison if you wanted to make one.

Estimated standard value of the car is just under 20k. 35k adds 15k which is just under half of what he mods cost. Apologies but don't really have the time to reply to all other comments :)

Just for reference the Skoda did 11.4 and that was with 17mph headwind and with an older DSG map that had slower changes so low 11s are certainly possible.

there's a big difference between 11 sec and 10sec, 11.4 to say 10.4 is a massive power increase, it's only a second but the gap down a drag strip is huge.

a Skoda doing a 10.4 might have be be 750hp ............not sure, it's hard to tell

Totally agree, that's why I said low 11s and not 10.4, that would be at least 750hp or a little less and full slicks.

your car would do it easy and more too, because there's Golfs on Youtube with over a 1000hp, but it would me bloody expensive

Yes, I agree, but then over a threshold you start losing road driving qualities. My car is so smooth that if you don't step on it it's not very different than standard.

IQUOTE="Gibbo, post: 32216960, member: 6"]Not in the twisties. :D[/QUOTE]

It's not comparable to an SVR or an R8 but you would be pleasantly surprised of how well it handles with the modifications I made to the suspension. Haldex with bilstein coilovers, eibach anti roll bars front and rear, engine and gearbox mounts etc transformed the handling. And I do have reference points as I drove an extensive number of stock and modified cars in my (not too short :p) life.

Interesting to see about the times.

I've seen a few Golf R's that are Stage 3, roughly 520-550hp running 10.7s at Pod. So maybe a bit lower at Crail idk. Might be down the the weight of the car.

Such Golfs are completely stripped out and with full slicks. Mine was full weight and normal tyres but, having said that 11.2 is possible under ideal weather conditions with the new dsg map.

Full
Not really, there are a few on the Facebook group I'm in, full weight, 99 octane, usually PS4 or PS4S as tyres, and are used as dailies. It's difficult to get the "best" time as there are so many variables of course

Full weight with 520-530hp and normal tyres doing 10.7 at Santa Pod? Not at Crail (or abroad) or with their own recording equipment.

10.66 @ 127.54
10.79 @ 127.19
11.08 @ 126.05

All them 3 cars I know for definite have ran with full interior, tuned to Stage 3/road tyres. With printouts to verify of course..

Would love to see the car details and printouts (especially 60ft). Been doing this for sometime and know most cars and owners and full weight/normal tyres and 10.66 with 520hp at Santa Pod I have not seen. Happy to be proven wrong.

ps. 10.79@127 sounds like Andy's car. That's a TT v5 car and is not making only 520-530. Also it was not at Santa Pod but on the road and recorded with Dragy.

I can vouch for the spec on the 11.06:
  • MRC Stage 3 ECU and DSG map (524PS/671NM)
  • Turbo Technics V4 hybrid IS38 turbo
  • Full turbo-back, valved, Milltek exhaust system
  • Wagner intercooler
  • Autotech HPFP
  • Unitronic carbon fibre air intake (including pipe and elbow)
  • GFB DV+
  • NGK Racing R7438-9 spark plugs
  • 4 BAR map sensors
  • KW V3 coilovers
  • 034 Motorsport Rear ARB
  • ATS Racelight, 19x8.5j ET35, wheels in Satin Black
I shall report back with prinout/60ft if the owner sends it.

No need. 11.06 on a Golf is possible under good conditions. That's not 10.66 though. To drop that much you need much more.

When people start talking about stages in car tuning you know they more often than not haven't a clue what they're talking about.

There are actual stages but there's a hell of a lot more to it than walking in to a dealer and going "I want stage 3 please".

Stage 1 is about the only one which can be generalised as it usually means the car's breathing has been improved, usually a filter and a pipe. Even that however can vary rather dramatically.

Very true if you are talking about cars in general (I get confused by Stage 5 etc. GT-Rs as I did not research them extensively)

On the MQB cars though it is established by most tuners that:

1. Stage 1 - Map and filter. Maybe different intake hose and other small things
2. Stage 2 - Add downpipe, maybe sports catalyst and/or full exhaust . Maybe DSG map
3. Stage 3 - Hybrid turbo and everything else that may be needed for up to 600hp
4. Stage 4 - Additional injectors/rails (needed for over 590-600hp) , bigger turbo (usually not a hybrid but could be as the TT v6) etc.

Things do change daily but those are the approximate guidelines for MQB cars.

My opinion on stages is that they're just modification package names.

In the focus st world some tuning companies have a package and name it stage 3 where as another tuning company package will name it stage 2.

If I had to give my own opinion on it, in relation to turbo charged cars.

Stage 1 = map + airfilter
Stage 2 = map, airfilter, catback, intercooler
Stage 3= map, airfilter, downpipe + sports cat, catback, intercooler, possibly turbo actuator and upgraded blowoff/recirc.

Anything which involved hybrid turbo, upgraded injectors to suit, upgraded fuel pumps etc as a package would probably be like a stage4/5. Its just easier naming a package in stages rather than individually naming the modifications I guess.

I agree. That is why I listed only the MQB stages. These classifications change for different car brands or even models.

Sorry I saw your post after I had posted. It's a strange game tbh

It certainly is, I have been playing it for 28 years now and I am still learning something new every day. And I actually mean 28 years modifying cars, not that I am 28 years old (I wish :p ).
