SKT 775 CPU that won't bottleneck a 5870?

Hi,
I'm trying to build a second 'gaming' rig out of all my spare parts but the CPU I have is a huge bottleneck on the 5870. It's an E2140 @3.0ghz (CPU refuses to go over 3Ghz) with 2GB DDR2 800mhz RAM.

So far I've got:

• E2140 @ 3.0Ghz with an Arctic Freezer Pro
• 2GB DDR2 800mhz
• MSI Neo2-fr P35 mobo
• Powercolor 5870
• Thermaltake 850W PSU

I want to spend as little as possible on this as its just a side project that I plan on selling.

I'm thinking along the lines of a ~Q9300 and 4GB DDR2 @1066mhz and OCing as far as the cooler will allow or should I go for a better CPU/Dual core?

Ideally I'd like it to be able to run BFBC2 & FFXIV @ 1080p.

Q9300 + 4GB RAM my best bet for a cheap bottleneck solution?

Q6600 is £75 secondhand, overclock the cpu to 3ghz and it flys

+1 I suggest a quad, and Q6600s are usually found at a decent price

Yeah 6600's great, or equally you can get an 8300 on the bay for 65-85

Or sell the CPU/mob and swap out for nice 2nd hand am3 setup. Should work out around the same price and u'll have newer tech with better upgrade path. Not sure how far I'll be able to oc q6600 on that mobo

I'm not sure its worth spending money on something if your planning to sell it? . . . your not selling the HD 5870 are you? . . . just sell the old LGA775 mobo and processor and 2GB DDR2 of separately for *maximum* cashback £££ . . .

A Q9300 + 4GB DDR2 RAM is in no way cheap? . . . why are you throwing good money after bad? . . . do you have a buyer lined up for this or? . . . and could that buyer get himself/herself a better more modern system for the same or less money ££ ?

Most people who have a clue are not going to spend a lot of money on buying themselves a half-new/half-used LGA775 system in Sept/Oct 2010 as there are just better options now . . .

Even if you pick up a bargaintastic used Q6600 you still need more DDR2? . . . as much effort and thought as you put into it I would say this idea is a loser from a cash-back perspective!

I was going to sell it to a mate on the cheap as his current rig is ancient and he doesn't have much money.

All this started because I wondered if I had enough spare parts to build a PC but high + low end components don't mix so well. I'll strip it down again and sell it all individually I reckon.

Problem is I tend to hoard things rather than selling them so I've got boxes of PC components and cables. I've been wanting to get rid of the 5870 for 2 months now -.-

As far as the cpu suggestion goes, I had a similar idea with my e6400, perhaps upgrade it to a q6600 to get some extra life from the platform.

Maybe your best bet is to infact sell the bits as the other guys are suggesting if its of no real use to you though?
