IF I were to upgrade, whats your suggestions? money is very tight, so no new PSU, mobo or ram

spec at the moment :

AMD 3000+ Venice
DFI Lanparty UT Ultra-D
HIS Radeon X1950 PRO (PCIe)
Geil 2Gb RAM
Akasa 460W

thinking about getting one of those X2 chiips with the higher cache?

You could use the cash you save on a tuniq tower, scythe ninja or something similar! ;)

gt

whats that?

oh and i dont think i could "overclock" due to the RAM being cheap Geil Value and only a 460W, the heatsink cost me an arm and a leg, but its only a 120mm Zalman cooler

Divide the ram down and get clocking! your ultra d will do 300htt easy, so you could get 2.7 out of the 300 you have

2.7 would be cracking! :)

im a bit limited in psu and RAM arent I?

I'd go for an Opteron 165 with that mobo. Most reach 2.7 to 2.8GHz (mine doe 2.9 on default volts), and they can be had for around 100quid new.

I never understood the differences between the FX chips and X2 chips ?

Opterons are just sandard cut down like Celerons arent they?

Opteron's are server-class, or cherry picked Athlon64's if you want another way to put it. That's why they tend to overclock better than ' normal ' Athlon64 / X2 chips.

Semprons are the AMD equivilant of Celerons.

ok, so are Opterons dual core as well ? (i dont think they are) if they are not then im looking at a dual core chip as i do a lot of multi tasking as well as games
