Skull and crossbones wall mural in child's treatment room at hospital

Haven't had chance to revisit the hospital but with the aid of an internet search engine I managed to find what the mural looked liked. Imagine something like these, 2 and a half feet across in a child treatement room and tell me it doesnt send a shiver down your spine.

FYI I think you might be getting a bit concerned over nothing - it's not some scary imagery from a heavy metal band or horror film or something - they're from the Disney films in the "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise

plenty of kids are fans of the films

in fairness if those were the murals, while they wouldn't send a shiver down my spine I wouldn't expect to see something as 'graphic' in a kids ward. with that being said not for one second do I believe these were the murals.

It wasn't both of them, I think it was just the one on the left.

Do you honestly believe this? I dont.

Children's A+E tend to be muralled up with characters and scenes from things they recognise and associate with. Show any 6 year old a skull and cross bones flag, and they think of "pirates!", not "Oh no! my own ill fated mortality".

If you think about it, it is a bit bizarre that a symbol of death used by murderers is now associated with an almost entirely fictional(*) image of what is effectively Robin Hood on sea. But it is.

* As far as I know, the only actual pirate even close to being like the modern image of pirates was Benjamin Horneygold.

Actually I don't know why I'm posting, this is like getting into an argument with Psycho Sunshine about window cleaners.

1 weird trick for making £20K a week with a cloth and a bucket!

It’s pirates. Kids like pirates. Bet you wouldn’t kick up a fuss over ninjas though would you! Even though they’re also enjoyed by children.

This has been one of the best threads for a long time, oh my sides.

Do you have children OP, or were you ever in hospital for any length of time as a child?

I spent quite a bit of time in hospital between the age of 3 and 10 for eye operations and when I was battling with asthma. It was the 80s and I was mad into action man, ghosts and monsters anything to do with soldiers, He-Man and Star Wars.

Do you honestly think I would have **** my pants if I had seen Skelator or Darth Vader painted on the wall? I would have thought it was awesome and the hospital was well cool.

I don't think you realise how mentally resilient children can be when they are in a safe environment and don't have the weight of the adult world bearing down on them. You are wasting your time and effort, I bet that image has been on the wall for 5 or more years trouble free.

Children's wards need fighters not wimps trust me...

not a very good attempt to rebuff the op given the comical imagery relating to the jolly roger in the video. it barely looks like a skull and crossbones on the flag and even less so on his hat.....maybe they thought using a real skull and crossbones image would be too graphic......wait, you're actually supporting the op?

CBA to read whole thread, but good name change. Well played mods.
"We also expect members to behave respectfully and not launch personal or abusive attacks on other members."
yeah, i guess the forum rules don't apply to mods and they're free to arbitrarily change usernames to insult and troll members.

Seriously?

Post it on twitter, people who love to complain about stupid things hang on there a lot.
You should see our community Facebook page. Jesus. Trial by Facebook is a real thing. People out there take pictures of people parking badly or slam some poor independent restaurant because their pasta was a bit undercooked. Then every jumps in like piranhas.

Oh come on, this is a ridiculous thread, from a poster who has a history of posting to outrage, stir and generally wind up people.

A name change isn't permanent. Its harmless. If the OP has a problem with it, a Trust to a mod would presumably get it back to FubberRuck or whatever it was to go with that dubious sig he/she used to have.
