Sky 3D

".. and here's your plastic glasses so you can watch the game. Enjoy your pint"

Can't see it taking off to be honest, and I say that as a fan of 3D. Would normal sports or TV programs benefit sufficiently to make the expense/hassle worth it? IMO you should reserve it for home cinema or home gaming.

IMO you should reserve judgment until you've seen it in action!

That would make any discussion in this thread pointless.

It's fine to speculate imo ;). And I speculate that 3DTV will pervade all of our TV watching in five years time and that 3D HD sports will be awesome.

The only thing I'm struggling with is how pubs will work the requirement for every viewer to have 3D glasses.

The 3d glasses one is easy, if 3d technology carries on taking over in the cinema and then moves into the home market everyone will have a pair probably designed by Gucci. The landlord would then just need a small stash of disposables to sell or rent to customers.

I have to agree I think 3d sports will be pretty amazing.

I could see this being great with certian angles that they show...hmm drunk + 3D, wouldnt mind a youtube video of people watching a rooney shot coming towards the screen :P

I just bought a new telly before Christmas, and going by the frequency I generally buy new telly's, it could be quite a few years before I have one with 3D :P

Or free to borrow when you buy a pint of beer (deposit required)! What a money-spinner that could be.

Same :(. Still it costs to be an early-adopter. I wonder how the TV channels will work the 3D thing, i.e. free with an HD subscription, free in any case, separate subscription...

I've read that these are the pubs showing it in 3D, (no guarantees its right though):

Cardiff
The Blackweir Tavern (North Road)

Dublin
Qbar (D'Olier Street)

Edinburgh
Belushis (Market Street)

London
Bar Kick (Shoreditch)
The Elk Bar (Fulham)
The George (Liverpool St)
Sirocco ( Soho)

Manchester
Binary Bar (Castlefield)
O'Sheas (Princess Street)

its just a fad 3D why should I watch bloomin TV with glasses on. Plus you have to buy a new (and albeit expensive TV) I reckon the uptake will be very slow, even if Sky are offering the add on for HD boxes as free.

I`ll adopt 3D TV when I dont have to wear bloomin glasses !

Plus think about it, who wants to see footballers spit in 3D or kiss each other in 3D, yuck !
:D

what about if you already wear glasses, its bad enuff one pair of bins, let alone a 2nd pair just to see Rooney's ugly fizzog in 3d :)

only problem i see is when the match is over and the drunks forgetting to take the glasses off and thinking their eyes are failing them

Has anyone here got any experience of the kind of 3D we're talking about here? Is it absolutely awesomely mind-blowing with excellent colours, or is it only 'slightly 3D'?

Binary! I live on the same street as Binary Bar. Think I'll be popping round to have a look. Will report back

I'm dubious though as Binary is tiny, think about 30 people.

Saw some '3D' TVs at BETT this Jan. It was basically like those fancy BluRay covers that look like they're moving, when it's actually just two pictures ever so slightly different.

Also saw some 3D apps that required the grey-lens glasses that worked quite well, but I don't like the grey haze that it has. Not seen any films in 3D so I can't comment on what they're like at the cinema. Any good?

Avatar was good in 3D, only one i've seen and will probably ever see because it doesn't "make" a film.

The 30% brightness reduction really sucks with 3D though. I took the glasses off during Avatar and was amazed at the amount of brightness the glasses weren't letting through.
