Hello,

I have Sky BB and my ping times are to high !

Just been playing COD 4 online and my ping was 130  same on CS Source

Speed test shows 6.5Mb package and download speed are good just pings are to high and lots of lag :(

Anything i can do to help lower the pings ?

Thanks Ben :)

Ask them to change your profile. I had mine changed from Interleaved to Fast Path and my pings went REALLY low. Do they have a forum or something, worth an ask? BTW, My situation was on TalkTalk.

A ping of 130 is fine.

At this time of day (5pm-9pm) I cannot use online FPS like BF2 due to a ping of 300-500.

EDIT: I am on a 4mb line

A ping like that is not fine for CoD4 and CS:S, it makes the game unplayable due to lag and not being able to hit enemies.

I'm using Sky BB on the 8mb package (actually get 4 as im a few miles away from the exchange) and i get a maximum ping of 50 to UK servers.

cheers for the info.

just on phone to sky support now see what happens lol

i want to get it below a ping of 50 if i can :)

Ok just spoke to sky and they can help !!

My line is good enough for the max delay or something to be changed, that only BT can alter at there end. Something called fastpath.

Should take a few days to go through, wait and see i guess.

Aye, told ya so:p

Cool :)

If i ping from the cmd to either bbc.co.uk or jolt.co.uk i get between 70 and 80

See what i get after the alterations :)

I hope my COD 4 ping goes down most of all !

Just been playing COD 4 online and my pings are around 80 at the moment.

From 130 lastnight to 80 this morning is an improvement.

However i dont think sky have altered any settings yet. They said it would take a few days.

You are joining UK servers arent you? 130ms sounds about right for a US server.

UK server Multiplay
Round-Trip: 15.684 min, 15.909 avg, 16.104 max (ms)
Packets: 5 transmitted, 5 received, 0% lost

And a US server
Round-Trip: 128.637 min, 131.399 avg, 132.703 max (ms)
Packets: 5 transmitted, 5 received, 0% lost

I'm on VM

when i had sky 8meg my ping would always be 75+, sucked espically when housemates started to go on youtube and such would jump up to like 200 :( but now on VM and my ping has dropped to 20ms xP woopwoop

Lowest ive had my ping is about 15 on an TFC2 server 36 player with BE ...

not seen a ping over 100 since ISDN :P heh

I remember i used to get a ping around 20 when i first had broadband, it then crept up to around 30 to 40, i switched to sky more recently which has a minimum of 50, is it possible to get them to change to fastpath or would it be different as they use LLU where i am?

Aye, told ya so:p

The "Max Delay" setting is different to being on a "Fastpath" setting.

I'm with Sky on a ~2.4mb Interleaved connection with my Max Delay set to 8 (from 32 if I remember correctly). Pings dropped to ~26ms from ~80ms from what I can remember.

Compare this to when I had a fixed 1mb BT Broadband connection with pings of ~12ms on Fastpath.

**Edit**
The Max Delay settings should be changeable over the phone by the Tier 3 Sky support (did with mine). I don't recall Fastpath being an option with Sky (not unless Sky have changed polices at all).
