Just thought i'd post and let you know that i've just ported over to Sky broadband on their £26 per month offer for BB phone and TV.

Broadband speed is really snappy, and that's from a previous Zen user.

I was dubious about changing to them as i've read a few horror stories about them.

So to sum it up.........i'm happy! :D

Anyone else got anything to add good or bad?

Good. On Sky Max - get about 6.5mbps-7mbps on a line with 48dB Attn - which I have to say is damn good. Pings are OK too, despite the interleaving. Downloads always max my line and the fact that I pay £36p/m for phone unlimited, BB Max unbundled and sky TV, I think it's a great deal. But sssh, stop creating these threads, we don't want evil downloaders maxing us out! :p Been connected for a month now - slight problem getting the phone sorted out on Sky Talk but that's all resolved now.

I'm so tempted to sign up too but if it turns into a nightmare I will have wished I stayed with NTL :p

I may make the jump though

Fair. Your line isn't great but you'll get about 400KB/s on downloads. My old house line was 53dB Attn, but I got 5.5 Mbps - good quality line there.

You shouldn't get many dropouts as the chipset in this router is pretty good at holding lines.

That's nice to know - the line has progressively got better since i moved here in October 05.

Mind you Eclipse were responsible for 3 months of net "hell" when we 1st moved here.

Not too sure about what it's called but the info ive just googled brought it up as being "surf, speak and see"

ALREADY A SKY TV CUSTOMER?
Great value upgrade – you could add up to 8Mb** Sky Broadband and Sky Talk Freetime to your existing Sky TV package. Pay just an extra £5 per month, plus a one-off activation fee of £20, plus £11 per month to BT for your line rental.

Aaah, you are on the mid package. Not the LLU unbundled like the Max package which is up to 16MB.

Done a little more digging, the exchange is LLU enabled but tbh for what it costs, this is fine for me, the sky max isn't available just yet in my area despite the exchange being enabled.

I haven't posted here for about 2 weeks now, been without broadband and still am thanks to Sky.

I was with Bulldog who did their part and got lost, now i was supposed to be activated on the 9th on MAX broadband but even though Sky say im active and the BT order tracker says im active my router doesn't sync with the exchange and i get no "internet light".

Very hard to resolve with Sky, they say they will call me back but i don't believe them at all. 56k sucks...:(

What kind of pings do you get and do they stay regular?
Depends - laptop gets about 45-55ms, and my desktop gets about 35-40ms. Which is pretty spot on for an interleaved line.

40ms (wireless).
Haven't used torrents yet - might get a linux distro or two soon though to test.
Not noticed any traffic shaping (see above).
Fair Usage Policy (which is presumably about 50-80GB because the mid package is 40GB cap).
12 month contract - ADSL2+ I believe (up to 16MB).

Every ISP I speak to says my line can only handle upto 5.5mb??

Is that because the line from the box on my neighbours wall to my house is rubbish? Or is it something I could ask BT to look at for me??

Anyone know please?

Thats not a bad line rate tbh. Upto 8mb Broadband is exactly what it says the only way to get it quicker is to move closer to a relatively quiet exchange and have a good quality line.

yeah I know what the 'upto' means :)

I just thought it was strange as I gave my doctors phone number as a test before with 'Be' and they said it could take 11.5meg and that 100yrds from my house, away from the exchange?

Nevermind!
