Sky BB

got 2 mates in work with Sky BB on their LLU service. Hope you get a router other than the Sagem as its complete rubish and both had issues with it, random disconnections all the time.

Sky then sent one of them a Netgear one after complaining and thats been rock solid.

Can't say I've had any problems with my Sagem router, been totally rock solid!

Same here. Not one disconnection since installed in late July

edit - I have left my machine downloading at 1.8mbps all day and night before. I think for £10 a month this is not possible with other companies without getting a letter or capped speed at a certain time

it says i should get between 10-20mb my stats on my adsl24 8mb line are

SNR Margin 8.0 28.0 dB
Line Attenuation 31.8 18.0 dB
Errored Seconds 0 0
Loss of Signal 0 0
Loss of Frame 0 0
CRC Errors 0 0
Data Rate 8128 448 kbps
Latency FAST FAST

any idea as to what I can expect my adsl24 is running ok again for now so I hope i don't regret swapping to sky

I'm guessing that is the down attenuation that is 31.8db? If so, how on earth can he then sync at the full 8128?

My stats using o2 router on o2 Access -

Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 448 / 6,688
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.0 / 19.5
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 14.5 / 23.0
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 25.0 / 14.5

The down attenuation is always 26db on Netgear. No idea why it's 3db higher. I use that DGTeam firmware to decrease SNR on Netgear and could not get anything better than 8064 sync.

With that SNR you should be getting 8Mb/s (im guessing that's the cap on Access?).

Sky had screwed around with my SNR profile at first and my speed was capped at about 15Mb/s, once they changed it so it synced at 7dB instead of 13dB it went upto 19Mb/s.

I'll be using my Netgear router come the 16th. Atleast then i'll be able to benefit from a stable line and near enough 8MB.

These are my line stats

Connection Speed 13393 kbps 916 kbps
Line Attenuation 34.0 db 17.2 db
Noise Margin 6.4 db 8.0 db

But you have to remember about line quality, distance & other factors also, but i'd imagine you'll see about 15mb possibly? don't take my word for it though :)

what do errored seconds and crc mean are they bad? I reset router couple hours ago

SNR Margin [d/u] 9.4 28.0 dB
Line Attenuation[d/u] 30.8 18.0 dB
Errored Seconds 7 0
Loss of Signal 0 0

I have been with Sky on the unlimited BB for almost 18 months.
At first it was rock solid, although I could only get about 4meg download speeds. I was happy because it was stable as anything.

Roll on to August this year and I get an email from them saying that they are going to increase the speed of my BB product:cool:
Start of September, cue random disconnects and modem appearing to be freezing up.
Read about DLM, so called them up. Had to go through the usual stuff, test socket, etc. No better, so transferred me to Tier 2 support.
Was told that my SNR down was dropping below 6 from about 10 and this was causing problems.
They said that they had altered some settings and to give it a couple of days.
Did a couple of speedtests over the next few days with maximum connection / download speed of about 1.5mb:(
I am still getting problems now, but have since cancelled my Sky package and switched to Virgin an their 50meg BB.
Sky have been pretty good on the CS side when I speak to someone from the UK, but the deal I have been offered for the Virgin package is pretty much unbeatable (have a friend who works for them and has got me "mates rates", so it works out a 1/3 cheaper than my comparable Sky package)

my connection was activated last friday... i am still waiting for my router lol proper sucks so much for the 3-5day wait for router , they got a phonecall friday saying where is the router only to be told for some reason its not been sent and she will tell her manager to get one out asap
