I am moving house soon and will be swapping from BE to Sky internet (not fibre). I was wondering what they are like for gaming in terms of ping and stability. If possible could I ask if someone in London could run a quick speedtest and post their results. I know it's a long shot, but I will be connected to Leytonstone E11 exchange if anyone is by chance connected to that ;)

Thanks!

No problems here at all. Pings less than 50ms connecting wirelessly. Stable and solid too. Only had about 4 times it's been down due to exchange issues. No problem with their Sky Hub either.

if you get sky ring them once connected and ask for the max delay to be reduced to 8, or depending on line length get G.dmt (adsl1) and the same with the max delay. My pings are 25 to 40 depending on servers and country.

Well aren't you lucky, I'm connected to the very same exchange. I'm ~300m straight line distance away from the exchange however (joy, directly connected, no fibre :(). Ping is averagely 10ms with O2 LLU, I expect it would be very similiar to Sky since they also have LLU at the exchange. I'll find out later anyway since Sky bought O2 (and in turn, BE, since O2 owns them) and will move everyone over to their equipment later in the year.

Really it shouldn't be that much different to what you have now.

Hi, if l ping bbc.co.uk l get a ping of 12ms or the London exchange through speedtest.net also get 12ms that's on a sky fibre 40/10 from Newcastle Upon Tyne 280m.

Sadly you will find that the ping with sky will be higher as I noticed the difference but that is due to O2's equipment being better. When I was with O2 my ping was about 18 to 25 for uk servers where my sky are 25 to 40. thats LLU not fibre

Thanks all for the responses, I can live with a ping of 25-40 no problem just as long as it's a stable ping and not up and down all the time.

Sky ADSL has a certain amount of interleaving.

yeah KIA but the comparison was between o2 & sky & having had both, I have my sky connection the was I like it after much discussion with more knowledgeable cs people.

G.dmt
max delay 8
8 mbps profile

These were manually configured and stable as adsl2+ on a 40db line was shocking and my speeds were poor compared to adsl but thats due to line quality.

7096 down 830 up

In the past I had Sky ADSL and BE in the same property.

The pings on BE were lower thanks to fastpath and the configuration you can do in the login area, but Sky was by no means bad.
