My Sky Router (Netgear 834GT)

ADSL Firmware Version A2pB018e.d16f
Modem Status Connected
DownStream Connection Speed 6720 kbps
UpStream Connection Speed 768 kbps
VPI 0
VCI 38

yet, the PPoA connection doesn't work, ie it doesn't get an IP, gateway etc.

Any ideas??

I did try Sky, but they ran through the script... arrrrggghhh... then said, we'll get 2nd line to call... in less than 3 days!!! FFS!! Useless!

Line Attenutation 39db
Noise Margin 6.6 db

One of my friends I looked at for them kept doing this. It seemed to work ok for a while by running through Sky Test at the bottom of the status page.

Unfortunately it was only temporary and needed to be done every day or so to restore the connectivity, they got a new router from Sky in the end and they haven't rang me for help since...

I take it sky did tell you to do a hard reset (little hole on routeR?)

I have the same firmware version as you. I manage to connect and get reasonable speeds, although the speeds vary throughout the day and the DownStream connection ranges from 8000-13000. I find though my router just loses connection to the internet, despite having an IP address and being "connected". Only a reboot of the modem fixes it :(

Its frustrating because it shows the line speed it "connects" at, yet the log is full of:
Sat, 2000-01-01 00:04:41 - LCP is allowed to come up.
Sat, 2000-01-01 00:04:43 - CHAP authentication failed
Sat, 2000-01-01 00:04:43 - LCP down.
Sat, 2000-01-01 00:05:41 - Initialize LCP.
Sat, 2000-01-01 00:05:41 - LCP is allowed to come up.
Sat, 2000-01-01 00:05:44 - CHAP authentication failed
Sat, 2000-01-01 00:05:44 - LCP down.

I've tried reseting the router with the reset switch.

The router is connected to the master socket etc.

I'm guessing it must be some kind of account or security authentication its failing on?

Yeh, its failing on the account authentication. Ring them back up and tell them thats the problem. (CHAP authentication failed). Maybe they cut you off? or changed something at other end?.... Theres definatly a problem with CHAP authentication.

Still no ADSL :(

But they have changed my stats some how....

Status: Showtime Channel: FAST, Upstream rate = 764 Kbps, Downstream rate = 8190 Kbps
Link Power State: L0
Mode: ADSL2+
Channel: Fast
Trellis: ON
Line Status: No Defect
Training Status: Showtime
Down Up
SNR (dB): 13.8 12.0
Attn(dB): 42.0 25.7
Pwr(dBm): 1.3 12.4
Max(Kbps): 11472 864
Rate (Kbps): 8190 764

Any ideas?
Are those SNR/Attn figures good or bad?

allright then keep your pants on. just wait to see what they say if they ever ring you back.

Yup you need to get through to t3 who will run a authentication test and judging by your log it will fail. this will then be passed to another department to be rectified which wont take long (few days max).

However getting through to t3 is best tried at quite times as 2min queue or above and they will leave a ticket in the queue to be picked up 3-5 days.

You need a ticket to get to T3 which will mean you need to go through the troubleshooting fully if you have note done so allready.

have a look at skyuser

Your line stats are now better than they where.

Dave,

Thanks for your detailed response.

I spoke to a very helpful chap in Tier 3 last night, and the ticket has now been passed to "Ops" for them to look at with regards to the auth problems.

Thanks,

Lee.
