Hello

I recently changed over to sky broadband max about a week ago....past few days ive been experiencing a few naggling annoying problems......The odd time the internet will completly disconnect, maybe once twice a day and takes a bit of getting back online before things are back to normal, Do you think something is interfearing with the signal causing it to act like this or should i be ringing sky??

Thanks

helloooo

My noise margin stays around 11.4db downstream and around 14 upstream...recently i had it next to a cordless phone and pretty low down to the floor, so i moved it out of the room where no other electricals can interfear and higher up so fingers crossed i might see some changes.

Thanks for your help :)

Edit......I actually turned the upnp off last night on the router which ive heard can cause a lot of disconnecting probs, and actually touch wood has seemed to of done the trick as i havnt been dropped for over 10 hours now ( rolls eyes).

hello

still having the same problem, getting really really frustrating now, its disconnecting me over 20 times a day, when i lose connection the little network logo in the taskbar is saying connected but webpages just says internet explorer unavailable, and msn disconnects, The only way for me to get back online is to restart my pc .....really feel like smashing the router and sending it back to sky and saying stuff your **** connection, only had it a week and ive spent more time offline....surely my line cant need capping as im only experiencing speeds of up to 4-7meg, tried everything, bought a new filter and still disconnects.....Im really lost for what to do any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

What is the router doing while you can't browse? Can you still access the web interface, does it say it's connected/disconnected/no ADSL (the lights on the front should give some clue)?

I had problems with mine so i plugged my micro filter into my master socket. Behind the master socket there's a test socket on some phones once put in there i'm connecting at 16.8meg

I'm going to run a ethernet cable from downstairs to upstairs tomorrow so i can leave my router there now.

Most people that have this problem have solved by either lowering there noise margin or starting off in the master socket. By lowing your noise margin you will lose speed and most of the time it's just poor wiring insde your house via telephone extensions etc..

It's not a sky fault it's a wire fault in your house where have you got the router plugged into and is it a extension socket.

Also if you undo your master socket and there's 3 wires there in unless you have a old style phone that rings you can remove the orange wire in point 3 you should only need 2 wires in points 2 and 5.

Hi Matrix.....Thanks for the advice so far....atm i have it plugged in to an extension socket in the living room, The main socket is in the hall way, Now i tried the main socket to start off with and it just seems as bad .....i changed the channel on my router last night and since then its only dropped me once and now getting speeds over 8mb.....im going to try what you said with the master socket so will let you know how it goes,

Many Thanks for your help :)

Edit...The lights on the router are staying the same no change there, when i drop connection all 3 lights are on.

Edit 2.....took apart the master socket, pulled out the ortange wire and the router is now in the master socket, Fingers crossed :)

Have you put the router in the master socket test socket thats the socket thats hidden behind the plate that you don't see.

I'm 100% sure it's your extension thats causing the problem and when you plug it in the master socket ( face plate still on the wall) it's getting line noise.

I've just bought myself a 25meter eathernet cable which i'm setting up today to run it up the wall in the attic and back into our office so we keep our speeds ect.

I thin you'll see a HUGE difference once you use the master test socket where the line enters your house :)

hi Matrix

Ive just taken the face plate off, and plugged the router in the test socket...AMAZING :D thanks soooooo much for your help, i was about to give in and im on top of cloud 9 now :D

Thanks very much again :)

one minor prob...Nothing to do with the net tho :).....the cordless phone has no dial tone....do you think this is because of me pulling the orange wire out??

Yeah once you use that test socket it disables the phone i got around it by plugging the micro filter in first then using the adsl modem lead in one socket and the phone in the other.

By doing this these are my stats :-

Upstream rate = 764 Kbps, Downstream rate = 16380 Kbps
So i'm well happy with this :)

Glad it all worked out for you.

Downstream rate = 8096 kbps ....Upstream rate = 768 kbps

hasnt disconnected in over 18 hours now :D ....unfortunatly thats the best download speed we can get due to the area but couldnt be happier, finally a stable connection!!

Thanks again :)

No worries mate enjoy.:)

Of course your speeds may drop a little like around now due to traffic but at least your connection is stable now .

Enjoy your line.

Hi, does anyone happen to know where i can get a 30m ethernet cable from??....now i know you cant mention competitors names but maybe a hint :).....do BQ sell them??, could swear ive seen them there before......I was going to order online seeing as tomorrows my only day off but im too late now so was wondering if anyone could give me a clue on which local shops sell 30m ones :)

not in my case :) the wiring was fine, it actually performed no different at test socket than any other socket in the house - poor service area for me by Sky tbh.

in your case if your in the test thats fine. however if everyone used there head it would be great.

is your sky now fixed?
