SKY Broadband

As above,

But They are a great Isp, no problems for me, full speeds at all times, No capping and they dont enforce their FUP, which is around 300gb a month i think.

yup sky bb really dont give a naff about bandwidth at the moment as its still expanding jump on now leech for as long as you want with no issues and when they start to tightin it down move on after reviewing .

Yup. My mate and I are pulling about 500GB a month from Easynet (Sky/UK Online) and they don't say squat. Which is great, considering I'm doing it at 2,300 KB/sec :D

currently on 4mb with virgin and I no real complaints other than download speeds on the PS3 which are shocking! also virgin are upgrade 4mb to 10mb in the next 1-2 months ;-)

so for £22 I'll be getting 10mb and a phone line! called sky today and they told me I can only get upto 6mb in my area! there is a BT in my house but I have never used it because I had NTL fitted when I moved in. So I dont know if the BT line in the house is anygood, and from what I can see on BT's website it would cost £124 if the line need fixing!

The installation fee is a lottery - in most cases they'll cut it down to (next to) nothing.

It depends how much work is needed to connect you, and if they've only got to reconnect you at the exchange you should be charged much less.

is SKY bb really any better than virginmedia's bb? yeah the cutting down your connection speed by 75% is a pee take! but i'll still be getting 2.5mb...

I would look into Bethere.co.uk as well. In the past 2 years I've lived in this country I've been through BT, Sky, and Be.

Be is the best ISP I've ever dealt with, here or in the States.

I have just given BT a call, and they told me the old line in the house is fine ;-)

however when I asked if I could have the phone socket moved or another socket fitted they said yes for £168 !!!! wow thats a lot of cash for a phone line!

If it's just adding another extension socket do it your self, its pretty easy and there are plenty of guides around, shouldn't cost you more than £30 for a box, pile of cable and a couple of tools to do it.

You could also fit a filtered ADSL faceplate for the master while you were at it as that sometimes helps get a bit more speed out of your line.

yes fair point.

Other thing is because the BT line in my house is not connected they cannot tell what speed I will get! I have called them twice and been told 4.5mb by 1 person and 6 by another...

I also asked the max speed available to me and got 2 different answers! 8mb and 16mb.
Was told that to get the accurate speed I would need the line connecting and then a further 10days for the line to settle! guess that would mean I would be tied into a 12month contract!

You can work out the maximum from your postcode and Samknows - if your exchange has Sky's LLU present you'll get up to 16Mbps, if it hasn't you'll get up to 8Mbps.
