Sky Broadband

I'm on Sky LLU and am on Fastpath, or at least I am according to my router's detailed ADSL stats. Pings are around 30ms. When I was on Interleaved standard they were over 50ms

as far as im aware they only reduce the max delays - fastpath isnt available. Though with the gaming profile a sub 30 ping is the norm:

I had the idea of switching to Sky for phone and broadband from O2 (I am a Sky TV customer). When I contacted O2 for my MAC they offered me 6 months broadband for free... over the 12 months contract length it works out that I will be paying less than if I had moved to Sky on the equivalent package, and I am still on the old O2 Home Broadband Premium so am unlimited with no traffic shaping etc.

Just checked mine again and the set up date has been put back another 3 month and the max speed is a measly 25.1mb out of a possible 40mb :(

Apparently ADLS2+ reporting Channel: Fast is a bug.

Everyone is on Interleaved. It's easier for Sky I suppose if everyone's connection are more error tolerant.

Explains my 30ms ping as fastpath should be 20ms or so.

Sky LLU still offer unlimited downloads and no throttling that I've ever experienced. If you have Sky TV, Talk etc you get money off.

I have anytime+ with sky but i have never used it before is it actually any good? I take it it just need to have an ethernet connection? i had to remove the phonewire from it as my extension socket is dead

Some folks are on fastpath,
How ever any agent that is able to change line profiles must change this back to interleaving.

But on the question of moving from o2 to Sky,
Speed and so on should be the same give or take a meg or so,
Sky does offer truley unlimited downloads (no fair usage)

Remember that with Sky dlm start at 4Mbps and should rise up within the 10 days,

Other than that its the same service just another provider.

Sky's customer service is 1st class imo, i had a few issues with my line and a simple call to them (all be it you might have to try a few times to get someone that knows what your talking about) and it was sorted. It nice to know you can talk technical to someone and they are on the same wave length, things like changing my profile and max delay from 16 to 8 was done in minutes very efficiant i must say

I've spoken to customer service twice.

One guy I spoke to seemed pretty useless and kept telling me to take my issue up with Microsoft when the fault was a misconfiguarion of an e-mail account at their end.

The other time was when I was looking to get a router replacement and this time I seemed to be getting decent people who asked proper questions and didn't try and blame me or Microsoft.

It's common sense that they'll employ cheap and cheerful script readers as their front line support and keep their higher skilled support staff on a different tier. It would be pretty dumb to have a £20 an hour expert helping someone to plug their power lead into the right hole when a £3 an hour foreign muppet could do it.

:D i kinda got that round the wrong way didnt I lol it was meant to basically say that when you get through to the right person your be fine but its finding that right person tho :)

Some dounut tried to tell me i should scan for viruses to help reduce my ping? he's the man you need to speak to about all your sky issues lol i had to put the phone down as i didnt wanna laugh and humiliate him
