I migrated from o2 to sky when sky took over and they gave me a mega deal, phone line, broadband, family pack hd for next to nothing. I added the sports shortly after due to the fact the deal was so sweet.

With this in mind I was wary that after the 12 months, I was going to be getting billed a bomb for something that I rarely used. So I called up in April to cancel, they told me I couldnt until the 6th May as this would be 30 days before my contact ended with them. I said ok, however please cancel sky sports as I dont need that anymore as its end of season. She told me that it was 30 days notice, I said fine.

So I call up on the 6th May as discussed, to be told I cant cancel as I already have a change pending that requires 30 days.... Then to be told that I can cancel the lot, but that would take off the pending change. This means that I will get fleeced for a further 30 quid...

I try to ask for a manager, told that they cant do anything and they refuse to put me through. I ask to lodge a complaint, he logs one gives me the number and tells me that as he resolved it he wont escalate it.

I have never been so disgusted by a provider in my life.

I am aware that some people on this forum work for sky, is it my fault that sky's system will not allow me to give 2 notices for different things?

Interesting, my parents migrated from be there to sky with a ridiculous deal ( TV phone bb) for only line rental, and with the 12 months period coming up and got told we couldnt talk to them regarding the contract untill the last 30 days ( early next month). Will be intersting to see how yours goes. And if anyone can help you out/sort a deal out as im expexting them to charge fullwhack which my parents wont want to pay for. Not being stupid and I understand it was a great deal to entice.

Confused, what did you ring up in April to cancel - Sky Sports or your complete package ?

What did you want to cancel when you called in May ?

Did you initially just want to cancel Sky Sports but later decided to cancel your entire package ?

I called up in April with the intention of cancelling the whole lot... however told I had to give 30 days, so I thought, well Ill downgrade sky sports at this point, will save me a few quid as the last game was today. So she said, ok thats 30 days notice, which expires next sunday.

Basically they are refusing to allow me to cancel the rest of the sky until next sunday (with 30 days notice) or cancelling the whole lot from today with 30 days notice because their system doesnt allow them to do it.

I think they are just being awkward, surely a complete package cancellation should take priority. If you have no intention of staying then they may as well just go ahead with the cancellation. Perhaps you could try and email the CEO direct and see where you get with that.

Sounds typical for them unfortunately. We've still got a pending change on our account 3 years in but no one can tell me what it is!

If I cancelled my DD with them, I am assuming the ball would then be in their court and they would be calling me to sort this? Would they mess up my credit rating?

I'd write to them/e-mail them...recorded delivery. their system can't handle a full cancellation part way through the notice period for a downgrade but that shouldn't be your problem - check the contract carefully but if you just have to give 30 days notice then just do that... keep records of it. I'd be tempted to then cancel the DD and refer any further silly letters to your previous correspondence giving 30days notice... if they cause further problems then go to the ombudsman.

This is due to their awesome software for dealing with accounts.

What you're asking for can be done, they just need to stop the cancellation of your sky sports package and put in the cancellation of the sky. Obviously this will then overcharge you for something you don't want, but a credit can be applied to counteract this or a cheque for the balance that is owed to you. I used to go through this all the time, a lot of the guys are untrained on how to get over the quirks on the system.

So it can be done, and quite easily. Try and get put through to sky cares, they'll sort it out within minutes.

Sky do this intentionally because that is how they get off on annoying people.

Lodge your complaint online at their site and it will be taken care of quickly. So far every problem I have had, I have lodged a complaint in this manner and not once have I had a problem. I have had several problems trying to speak to somebody who could help me, so you just need to go straight to the online complaint section.

I know its annoying, but cant you just deal with paying one more months subscription? Everyone knows people like Sky can be terrible to deal with - suck it up, write to their cancellation department declaring an official 30 days notice, ring them to confirm then move on.

I'm not saying you are wrong to be angry about this, but its an easy fix.

Came in expecting someone who was creating a home made rocket or something.

Leaving dissappointed :(

Love it.

OP - good luck, Sky are THE worst company I've ever had to deal with. I cancelled my DD with them and it did get them on the phone pretty quick but it did cause more problems in the end and I lost quite a bit more than £30.

On topic. Pay up the extra £30, get out and make a complaint. Sky aren't going to change is the answer though. You've seen the contempt that Murdoch has for the law. The only thing they answer to is £ and it's going to take a lot of leavers for them to sit up and take notice of their rubbish service.

Murdoch does NOT have anything to do both the day to day running of the company and doesn't even own enough of the company to control it. Boils my **** when people trot the usual Murdoch hatred out about Sky.
