Hey guys, just thought I'd ask around about SKY fibre.

I registered my interest here two weeks ago : https://fibre.sky.com/shop/broadband-talk/broadband-options/sky-fibre-broadband/

I got a call last night offering me fibre broadband from sky for £20 a month and asked if I wanted to order it.

Specs:

40mb down
2mb up (changing to 10mb in a few months)
have to be a sky tv, phone, line rental & broadband customer
have to sign another 12 months broadband subscription.

I have agreed and will be connected to sky's fibre service on the 2nd March :)

does anyone else have it here or know anyone who does? They reckon my minimum speed will be 34mb^^

Updated stats:

Not toooo shabby eh?

The engineers *Machine* said I could get a max of 45mb down & 7.6mb up :D

BT's network is gonna become slow as **** with all the different companies using it.

I hate people who don't bother to research the info and spout crap. Some people will actually believe you now you have said that.

Does SKY's LLU service USE BT's network? No. Their Fibre service WON'T use BT's network. It will use their own.

Sky have upgraded their back haul about 5 months ago.

Re. SKY LLU exchanges - Sky owns their own equipmet. My line is fully unbundles to SKY.

BT have provided Fibre from the exchange to the cabinet.

It will go like this:-

SKY Network-> Sky exchange equipment->Switch to the BT Fibre from exchange to cabinet-> Copper wire to my house.

At NO point will BT's service start to suck as the bandwidth between the exchange and the cabinet will not be noticed. While it essentially touches BT's network fibre, its not their routing and wont be effected by cointention and packet shaping etc.

I pre registeres for the interest in fibre. Im not on the sky personell trial but I guess they are gearing people up before the april launch.

Rant over :)

If you read my post further back, the announcement from sky said it would use BT's current fibre network? So how am I trolling or not reading up on things? I may have just seen it the wrong way...

I was saying 'genereally speaking' ... didnt call u a troll :D

All "fibre" providers will be using BT Openreachs equipment and lines. If they didnt you would no way be seeing it for £20 would be more like 2000+, as they wouldnt have access as far as im concerned to BTO's ducting. This is also why they are offering (40/2 and 40/10 which is what Talktalk, BT etc are providing.)

ALL ISP, even llu use bt copper lines to the property. Fiber is going to be the same.

Sky will be upping the speed, most likely to 10mb, in the next month or so.

I know this because I have it on order, the sky fibre specialist sais it will be going up.shortly after bt do 80/20.

Do you by any chance have a contact number for them?

If Virgin allow me to cancel, I'd rather get my FTTC with Sky than BT as I will be moving TV services to Sky. I'd prefer having the same supplier plus I imagine it'd work out cheaper and easier.

I do have a direct contact number for the fibre team but i cant give it out sorry :(

YOU do realise sky have release ALL the details of their fibre broadband? It gets its official launch in April when the 'masses' can order it.

The Fibre team are currently calling 100 people from the list a day offering them fibre broadband (those that are on LLU & sky tv customers with line rental).

If you register your interest im sure you will get a call int he next day or so ;) took them just over a week to call me.

REMEMBER when filling in the 'register your interest' page put the account holders name and address and DONT tick the box saying dont contact me as they wont be able to call you.

It's a shame this, as im after broadband only and they're all selling 'packages' so milking fttc for all it's worth.

I'll have to sit it out, until sky offers it without the rest of the bits.

WOn't be too far off i suspect, they did this with the unlimited bb.

I wonder when we'll see the first Sky FTTC speedtest. ;)

I know a few who already have it, Ping:

Signed up twice over the past 2 weeks and haven't heard from Sky yet. I am a Sky customer with TV, Phone and Broadband (Unlimited) package, would've thought they would want to contact me ASAP regarding the trial tbh.

Sounds silly but make sure u don't tick the box saying don't contact me for promotions etc.

The name u sign up with has to be account holder.

SKY Network-> Sky exchange equipment->Switch to the BT Fibre from exchange to cabinet-> Copper wire to my house.

so fibre is never truly fibre as it goes to copper at the end!?

That's correct. Fttp is fiber to your property.

Yes I was with sky broadband on an llu exchange first.

It took 2 weeks to receive my call :)

Iv never had any sites blocked via sky, blocked via other means yes (scam/virus protection stuff). There usuage policy on their unlimited LLU/Fibre is unlimited, level 2 techs iv spoken to in the passed have said they do not know of anyone that has ever been warned about useage, so it is trully unlimited.

exactly what i was going to say. He should read the post on page two about posting false info :p

Ive been with sky 5 years now. I dont work for them, i appreciate not everyone wants sky but, at the end of the day i always want sky. it makes sense to have their broadband etc.

Ive never had any blocked sites capping or anything.

Always constant speeds. BT used to yoyo with their packet shaping etc.
