Hey guys, just thought I'd ask around about SKY fibre.

I registered my interest here two weeks ago : https://fibre.sky.com/shop/broadband-talk/broadband-options/sky-fibre-broadband/

I got a call last night offering me fibre broadband from sky for £20 a month and asked if I wanted to order it.

Specs:

40mb down
2mb up (changing to 10mb in a few months)
have to be a sky tv, phone, line rental & broadband customer
have to sign another 12 months broadband subscription.

I have agreed and will be connected to sky's fibre service on the 2nd March :)

does anyone else have it here or know anyone who does? They reckon my minimum speed will be 34mb^^

Updated stats:

Not toooo shabby eh?

The engineers *Machine* said I could get a max of 45mb down & 7.6mb up :D

Are you part of the trial or is it launching early?

I hope the bit about the upload speed changing is correct.

All of the major companies offering fibre (apart from virgin) will be using BT's infrastructure. BT will end up shooting themself in the foot again like they did with ADSL as the more companies they sold out to the worse their own customers broadband seem to perform.

BT's network is gonna become slow as **** with all the different companies using it.

I would rather use someone else that BT TBH :p

BE should be launching their FTTC services soon, I know they are already trailing it in some exchanges.

Why the need to sell out to all the other broadband providers. They sell out and the other providers seem to give better throughput and stuff than BT do for their own customers. ***** me off.

Then why don't you do the logical thing and move when this said slowdown happens ?

As an ISP, I would never opt for BT in a million years, but thats me.

As others have said why BT ?

They are the easy choice if nothing else, but everything else with them sucks.

And sharing it with other providers is no different to standard DSL/phone etc. etc.

BT is not BTO. It's BTO's network and other ISPs (like BT) use it. This makes the whole thing viable on the kind of costs that the public are willing to pay.

I've been with Be since 2006 and I'm telling you since O2 took over its been crap. They can trial all they want! I'm leaving

In this day and age of ISP's there is a thing called a contract no?

Plus they have to share it anyway else ofcom will cry like babies :p Personally though I'd never use BT in a million years terrible.

The thing is BT Infinity isn't terrible at all atm. I've had it 3 months and full 40 down 10 up consistently, 5ms pings. Cant fault it but like anything else I cant see it staying this way for long.

Don't compare it to Infinity & Sky Connect as it will not use BT Wholesale WBC network.

Yeah because o2 basically accumulated thousands of customer because of there low priced and unlimited packages they offered at first. o2 when it first started was awesome, then as the numbers rose it became pathetic.
