Sky Go, a service which allows Sky TV customers to watch live and archived content on the go, has been available in the browser and on iOS devices for 7 months now, and according to Holly Knill, the head of Sky Go, it's finally coming to Android devices next month as well.
Customers running "a selection of Android smartphones starting with Samsung Galaxy and HTC handsets" will be the first to have the opportunity to test the new Sky Go app, but there is no mention of support for any other devices in Sky's post just yet. Presumably, the app will be rolling out to select devices in order to iron out any lingering bugs that are found once it is released into the wild, and hopefully it will be coming to many more devices, including tablets, in the future.

Just in time for start of the new F1 season.

Been using Orange swapables so far which hasn't been ideal.

Why are they restricting it to just HD customers?

Kinda sucks tbh. I have a standard Sky+ box with Anytime on it but they won't enable these VOD services from BBC/ITV unless you have an HD box?

I wonder if a phone call will sort it. I have been with Sky for over 4 years and never had any deals off them....

i called them up 3 months back and got a free hd box for no extra cost to me, just had to sign for another 12 months, which was not a problem

They said something similar last autumn, sorry if I dont believe them.

They never had such a firm date - it was always "this year" or "this winter". Plus a friend of mine who works at Sky had a demonstration of it last week on an Android device. It will come out in February.

Typical though, I recently got a cheapish iPad 2 and I already have the two devices I want registered. Being able to only register two devices (and only change one a month) is pretty crap to be honest, especially for those who are paying for multiroom. Their adverts show people watching on a PC, phone and tablet - something you can't actually do properly if you have all three devices.

yeah i know it's a bit odd, but can understand why, you can basically give sky away to mates for free otherwise

Standard Sky+ boxes don't have an ethernet port do they? the new VOD features require internet connection, so thats probably why it won't work i guess :p

It is due to technical limitations of the old Sky+ boxes rather than it being restricted because you don't have a HD subscription.

I read that it was only going to be the Samsung Galaxy S and Galaxy SII, at least in the first roll out.

If it works on the S2 it should work on the Note, hopefully, but I'm sure I read in one the links above that they are planning to roll it out first on the Samsung 'Galaxy' Series in which case the Note should be covered.

Fair doos. I thought the later Sky+ boxes with the larger HDD would be ok but obviously not... I would use iPlayer on it as I used iPlayer on my Wii through the TV when I had one.

I will chance my arm when it's all up and running and see what they say. I've had 1 replacement box out of them in 4.5 years and even that was within manufacturer warranty. They will probably tell me where to go which may truthfully make me want to leave as I rarely watch things that are Sky only...
